Sauber F1 Team Japanese GP qualifying review

26.09.2015: Japanese Grand Prix – Qualifying – Saturday, 26.09.2015 Weather: sunny/overcast and dry, 26-28°C air, 33-39°C track

Japanese Grand Prix – Qualifying – Saturday, 26.09.2015
Weather: sunny/overcast and dry, 26-28°C air, 33-39°C track

Bad luck for the Sauber F1 Team during qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr will start the race from 17th and 18th. At the end of Q1 both drivers were on their personal best laps when yellow flags were waved in sector two. Max Verstappen’s Toro Rosso had stopped on the track.

Felipe Nasr and Romero Britto charity auction - The third #AngelCup of the Japanese Grand Prix, which is again designed and signed by the internationally renowned pop artist Romero Britto, will be used and signed by Felipe and auctioned at Charitybuzz (http://chrty.bz/ANGELCUP3). The proceeds will benefit our Charity Partner the Gabrielle’s Angels Foundation for Cancer Research (http://www.gabriellesangels.org/).

Marcus Ericsson (car number 9):
Sauber C34-Ferrari (Chassis 02/Ferrari)

Qualifying: 17th in Q1 (1:35.673 min / medium tyres)
3rd practice: 13th (1:36.199 min / medium tyres / 19 laps)

“That was a messy session. I was compromised a bit by the mistake I made on the first run. I pushed the rear tyre a fraction too much to the edge of the track and then I lost the car in the entry to turn 13. I had no reference lap time for the second run.

I was then on a good lap at my second try, and I think I would have made it into Q2 without the yellow flags. It is a shame, as there was more possible today. Tomorrow we need to fight back.”

Felipe Nasr (car number 12):
Sauber C34-Ferrari (Chassis 03/Ferrari)

Qualifying: 18th in Q1 (1:35.760 min / medium tyres)

3rd practice: 18th (1:36.919 min / medium tyres / 24 la
ps)

“We had bad luck today. Q2 was possible from my point of view. I was on my best lap when I came across yellow flags. Tomorrow we have to give our best. It is not an easy track to overtake on, so we need to benefit from any opportunities that might come up.”
