Belen to La Rioja

Slovak Štefan Svitko claimed stage 10 after it was shortened by just over 30 km due to a swollen río just after CP5 (km 244). It's the KTM rider's first ever Dakar win.

12:23 : Motorcycles: Svitko wraps it up

The KTM rider has finished stage 10. The Slovak went through CP5 (km 244.7) with a time of 4 h 02'23'.

12:05 : Stage to end at CP5

Due to the same thunderstorms last night that delayed the start of the stage this morning, the stage will end at CP5 (km 244.7) for all categories. A swollen río several kilometres after the checkpoint has become impassable.

11:46 : Motorcycles: Svitko on fire

Štefan Svitks (KTM) seems unstoppable at CP4 (km 192). The Slovak posted the fastest time and expanded his lead over Australian Toby Price (KTM).

11:38 : Motorcycles: Gonçalves third at CP2

111 km into today's stage, things are starting to look up for Portugal's Paulo Gonçalves. The official Honda rider posted the third fastest time so far and took 1'41' back from Price (KTM), sixth in the provisional standings.

11:22 : Motorcycles: in the eye of the storm

Like all other competitors, the leading riders took a 15-minute pause after CP3. Following the mandatory break, during which the riders cooled down in refrigerated trucks, the leaders are heading for the third dune belt, which will be the climax of today's stage 10.

10:38 : Motorcycles: leaders in the dunes

The favourites in this category, Price (KTM), Benavides (Honda) and Svitko (KTM) have entered the first dune sector of today's stage. The Honda rider took a tumble at the entrance to the sector but emerged unscathed.

10:16 : Motorcycles: Antoine Méo third at CP2

The official KTM rider taking part in his first Dakar has hit the ground running in today's special. The five-time enduro world champion posted the third fastest time at CP2.

10:14 : Motorcycles: Gonçalves concedes ground

Just like the favourites in the car category, Paulo Gonçalves (Honda) lost time looking for waypoint 1. The Portuguese rider is back in the race after stopping for a few minutes.

Over 30 minutes behind the overall leader, Gonçalves has no choice but to attack today if he is to stage a comeback. It remains to be seen whether the damaged radiator his motorcycle sustained yesterday will be up to the task.

10:08 : Motorcycles: sparks fly at the front

The battle between Kevin Benavides (Honda) and Toby Price (KTM) rages on. The two are almost neck-and-neck as Štefan Svitko (KTM) inches closer and closer. The trio is about 143 km into the special.

10:01 : Motorcycles: Price losing time at CP2

Only three motorcycles have gone through CP2, but Toby Price (KTM) is losing a fair amount of time to first-placed Štefan Svitko. The Aussie is 4'31' behind the Slovak, who's second in the overall classification. Kevin Benavides (Honda) sits in second place, 1'19' behind the leader.
