Dakar Rally 2016
January 13th - stage 10 - 431km
Belen to La Rioja
14:27 : Quads: Baragwanath still in the lead
The South Africa, who already posted the best time at CP1, repeated the exploit at CP2 (km 111). Marcos Patronelli was 51' slower and Alejandro 1'28' behind.
14:20 : Cars: Loeb back on track
Confirmed: Sébastien Loeb got stuck in the sand. The nine-time world champion is back in the race after a stop that cost him just over 10 minutes.
14:04 : Motorcycles: Gonçalves 4th in the stage
Paulo Gonçalves (Honda) has just finished stage 10. The Portuguese rider was fourth, 6'01' behind today's winner Svitko, who also overtook him in the general classification.
14:01 : Cars: mechanical trouble for Sainz
Carlos Sainz is confirmed to have screeched to a halt. The Spaniard has apparently suffered a mechanical and has been stuck at km 213 of the special for 1 h 45'. Sainz can forget about being crowned in Rosario.
13:56 : Cars: Sébastien Loeb stops
Unfortunately, Sébastien Loeb has been at a standstill for about ten minutes 9 km before CP3 (km 174). A quick glance at the map strongly suggests the Peugeot driver is stuck in the sand.
13:42 : Cars: Peter Pan flies again!
Stéphane Peterhansel demolished the competition in today's special. He spent the entire dune stage on the attack and finished the 244 km special in 4 h 13'32'.
His teammate Cyril Despres was the only driver who managed to keep up, finishing second and conceding 'only' 5'40' to his fellow countryman.
13:13 : Cars: Sainz at a standstill
The clouds are gathering over Carlos Sainz (Peugeot). The Spaniard, who was already losing over 20 minutes to Stéphane Peterhansel, is reported to have stopped on the dunes near km 213. Is the Dakar being decided before our eyes?
13:11 : Cars: Loeb third at CP2
Sébastien Loeb is having a good day after starting far behind the big honchos, who are about to finish. He was third at CP2 (km 111), 2'01' behind teammate Stéphane Peterhansel.
13:07 : Motorcycles: Gonçalves third at CP3
The official Honda rider continues to ride at his own pace far behind the front of the race. He posted the third fastest time so far at CP3 (km 174), losing time to Svitko. On the bright side, he's expanding his lead on Quintanilla, just behind him in fourth place overall, by 1'48'.
12:45 : Quads: Baragwanath leads at CP2
111 km into the quad race, the South African holds the fastest time at CP2 ahead of the Patronelli Bros. They're likely to settle for a defensive strategy like the previous two days.
