The Sauber F1 Team will start the Australian Grand Prix from P16 (Ericsson) and P17 (Nasr). In the first of the new qualifying format as well as tyre regulations, the Swiss team did not make it into Q2.


The Sauber F1 Team will now look into the data to analyse the new qualifying system. Despite the outcome, Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr are confident of making up positions during the race.




Marcus Ericsson (car number 9):
Sauber C35-Ferrari (Chassis 01/Ferrari)


Qualifying: 16th in Q1 (1:27.435 min / supersoft tyres)

3rd practice: 14th (1:27.659 min / supersoft tyres / 26 laps)

“It was a decent qualifying. The driving felt good having a well-balanced car. The team did a good job despite the limited running yesterday. We expected that it would be very tight in Q1. We were close to Q2, but it was not close enough.


 Tomorrow we do our best to fight for points.”





Felipe Nasr (car number 12):
Sauber C35-Ferrari (Chassis 02/Ferrari)

Qualifying: 17th in Q1 (1:27.958 min / supersoft tyres)

3rd practice: 20th (1:28.293 min / supersoft tyres / 26 laps)

“It was a tricky qualifying for us. The whole grid is competitive, and we know we still have a lot of work to do from our side. For the race I am confident we can move up some positions.


 It is a pity that I went out with a new set of supersoft tyres and could not have another flying lap as I ran out of time, but this is part of the new qualifying regime.”
