The FIM Snowcross World Championship, the finest expression of snow motor sports that ended last year in Falun, Sweden, with the second World Crown of home rider Peter Ericson, will start in the German venue of Sayda this year.

Last year Ericson topped a highly motivated Swedish trio, completed by runner up Johan Eriksson and third placed Viktor Stenman. The two will surely not make the defending Champion’s life easier this year.
Ericson, still on the factory Lynx, looks forward to a legendary record of three World Titles, something his long time rival Janne Tapio could never reach as he stopped two years after his second World Championship win.
Niko Korsumaeki, winner of the final round of 2007 and seventh placed in the standings, might be the surprise of the 2008 season. He reached top form at the end of the season, exactly like Polaris mounted Eriksson, who had a superb season finale, always finishing the last four heats in the top three.
Ski-doo fellow riders Tomi Ahmasalo and Fredrik Granberg completed the top five last year, right ahead of sixth placed Marcus Evensson, and all are ready to give chase in this forthcoming season starting in Sayda.
The first two rounds, one scheduled for Saturday the 2nd of February and the other one scheduled for Sunday the 3rd, will take place on the Snowland Walther. The first 12 lap heat is scheduled at 14.00 and the second heat at 15.00.
The track’s length is 1000 metres and the minimum width is 7 metres.
The meeting is open to the snowmobiles entering the Pro-Racer class, including both 2 stroke machines (up to 600 cc maximum) and 4 stroke machines (up to 1050 cc maximum).
Sayda is in the East of Germany and it is very close to the Czech border. The town is 50 kilometres from Dresden and about 150 kilometres from Prague, the capital of Czech Republic.
