2007 Rally Ireland, 15/11 – 18/11/2007
As expected, Andreas Aigner has to retire after rolling on SS 7 – while leading the rally, mind you.
Red Bull Rallye Team of Andreas Aigner (AUT)/Klaus Wicha (GER) – Mitsubishi EVO IX – preparing for the next PWRC event.
Baumschlager: "There would have been little sense in continuing with might and main here, even though Andreas had delivered a sensational performance!"
As was already expected yesterday evening, Aigner/Wicha are unable to restart Rally Ireland with their Red Bull Mitsubishi today.
The car was too badly damaged after the roll on SS 7 – concerning both the bodywork and the mechanics.
It has been a very difficult decision for team boss Raimund Baumschlager:
"Unfortunately the engine was slightly damaged as well – that’s why we were unable to ensure that Andreas Aigner could carry on with a fully functional car. I’m particularly sorry because Andreas was just having a sensational run here, driving one of his best rallies ever – and all that on these narrow, twisty roads with their slippery, muddy surface."
"We are now going to focus entirely on Cardiff in two weeks’ time, and we are sure that Aigner will be able to repeat his performance there – with a well-prepared Mitsubishi!"
