Dakar stage 7 news - a lot of trouble in bikes and car category

13.01.2018: Dakar Rally 2018 Stage 7 La Paz - Uyuni Saturday, January 13th 2018 13:46 Barreda eases the pace (a little)

Dakar Rally 2018
Stage 7  La Paz - Uyuni
Saturday, January 13th  2018

13:46 Barreda eases the pace (a little)

Joan Barreda has seen his advantage shrink somewhat in the last few kilometres after a stellar start that put him miles ahead of the rest. The Spaniard now enjoys a gap of 3'49' over Adrien Van Beveren and 8'20' over Kevin Benavides.

13:33 Peterhansel in trouble
!

Drama in the Dakar! Stéphane Peterhansel's dominant performance has been cut short by a problem of some sort. The Frenchman has remained stationary at km 129 for over 10 minutes now!

13:25 Al-Attiyah losing ground

Today is being a bad day in the office for Nasser Al-Attiyah. 147 km into the special and the Qatari is already losing 12'38' to Stéphane Peterhansel.

13:24 Peterhansel taking no prisoners

Stéphane Peterhansel is not one to drive conservatively despite his significant margin in the overall. The race leader went through WP3 with 2'50' to spare over Carlos Sainz and 5 minutes over Giniel De Villiers.

13:22 Metge and Caimi in trouble

Michael Metge and Franco Caimihave stopped at km 242 and 178 of today's special, respectively, and are losing buckets of time.

13:00 All hell breaks loose

Today's long special is littered with cars and motorcycles stuck in the mud. The rain has added an extra layer of difficulty to the course. Orlando Terranova, Mikko Hirvonen and Yazeed Al-Rajhi are currently at a standstill, probably after getting stuck!

12:59 Dutrie surges

After looking for an opportunity to shine since the start in Lima, Axel Dutrie seems to have found it today on the way to Uyuni. Yamaha's French rider has opened a gap after 147 km and now leads the stage ahead of Marcelo Medeiros (+4'43') and Nelson Sanabria (+5'10'). Ignacio Casale, meanwhile, has lost over 10 minutes in 50 km.
