Carlos Sainz wins the Dakar Rally 2018
Carlos Sainz has finished 9th on the last stage but obtains his second overall triumph on the Dakar following on from 2010. The Peugeot driver has faultlessly controlled the end to the rally, finishing 43 minutes in front of Nasser Al-Attiyah. Giniel de Villiers climbs onto the last place on the podium ahead of Stéphane Peterhansel.

Giniel de Villiers has reacquainted himself with stage victory to win the special in Córdoba, the first time for him since 2014! The Toyota driver has beaten Stéphane Peterhansel by 40 seconds, Nasser Al-Attiyah by 41 seconds and Lucio Alvarez by 43 seconds for an especially close finish!

Nasser Al-Attiyah would like to make it 3 in a row. After winning the last two stages, the Toyota driver is finishing the Dakar on a high note and has produced the best time so far at WP1, 48 seconds ahead of his team-mate Giniel de Villiers. Stéphane Peterhansel is in provisional third and is unlikely to perform a miracle and regain the third place on the podium that he lost yesterday.
