It was a tough season debut for the Team Trident drivers, who ended race 1 outside the top-ten.
After the excellent results secured in preseason testing and in the first practice session at Sakhir, where Indian Arjun Maini scored the best overall laptime, the expectations within Team Trident were certainly very high looking forward to the opening race of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
The series debut turned out to be challenging for the Italian squad. Maini consistently delivered an extremely high pace, but a qualifying mistake prevented him from achieving more than the seventh row on the grid.
After losing some positions at the start, having fallen to the seventeenth place, the twenty-year-old born in Bangalore made a brilliant comeback with some fast laps. After having implemented a clever strategy that led him to delay the tire change, the Indian driver's car was slowed down by a pit stop problem, which caused Maini to lose valuable seconds and prevented him from going beyond the 15th position, behind team mate Santino Ferrucci.
The 19-year-old American did not reach a perfect chemistry with the Sakhir track, and during the race he could not lap as fast as usual. This aspect explains Ferrucci's position outside the points zone.
Now the two drivers will analyze the data collected on-track together with the team's technical staff, with the aim of grabbing a positive results in the Sprint Race, starting tomorrow at 14:15 local time in front of the Bahrain Grand Prix audience.

"Today's results do not reflect our potential. Now we have to work with our drivers to quickly bring us back to the level of performance we belong to. Arjun Maini consistently showed a very good pace and only some mistakes prevented him from scoring a good result.
Regarding Santino Ferrucci, the American did not find the perfect chemistry with the track this weekend. The technical staff is at work with our drivers to better prepare for tomorrow's Sprint Race, where we hope to recover well”.
