Champion Jérôme D'Ambrosio receiving his prize
2007 Formula Master Champion, Jérôme D’Ambrosio will claim his prize of a GP2 test with team Campos Grand Prix next week (30 October 2007) following a superb Formula Master season, which saw the young driver score five wins.
D’Ambrosio previously took part in Formula 3000 and Formula Renault before choosing Formula Master as the next step in his up-coming international career, leading to his first title in single-seater racing and a chance to impress GP2 team boss Adrian Campos.
The GP2 test is scheduled on the first of a four-day official testing session for the Formula 1-feeder series, at Paul Ricard, France and D’Ambrosio has been looking forward to the opportunity since he clinched the Formula Master title at Brands Hatch last month.
"This is a very important step for me, as was becoming Champion, and I really hope I can show the team the best of my skills," said the 21-year-old. "They have seen what I can do in a Formula Master car this year but now it’s up to me to prove I can drive to the same standard in a GP2 car.
"I’ve already been in touch with Adrian (Campos) to discuss the technical aspects of testing their car and have met the team on a previous occasion so the whole process feels very natural. Now the only thing left is for me to do well on the day."
With a successful inaugural season completed, Series Director Mauro Sipsz has witnessed the experience gained by this year’s young racers, including Jérôme, and is already looking to 2008 with a new generation of Formula Master cars.
"Jérôme has proved a worthy champion this year displaying great racing skills combined with a good-natured and positive attitude throughout," said Sipsz. "He has been a pleasure to watch on-track and a great driver to work with. I wish him all the best for next week and look forward to following his success in the future.
"Formula Master’s aim has always been to position itself as a clear step to the higher echelons of motorsport for young drivers and next season’s car will provide an even closer feel with increased performance and new technology."
As an exciting new single-seater series, Formula Master offers young, aspiring drivers the chance to prove themselves on an international stage (as it is part of the FIA World Touring Car Championship race weekend package), training and preparing them for the highest echelons of single-seater racing in front of a global TV audience provided by Eurosport.
Featuring N.Technology’s Formula Master race car with electric gearshift and clutch paddles and advanced aerodynamics, the car weighs just 550kg including the driver and runs on control tyres by Yokohama. It has already secured 2008 FIA homologation approval – a world first – and has generated excitement from all sectors thanks to its dynamic styling, light-weight body and powerful engine.
