24H SERIES powered by Hankook: Thanks to a strong team performance, Leipert Motorsport celebrates second place in the SPX class

An eventful race weekend comes to an end for Leipert Motorsport. At the 24 Hours of Portimao, the team has shown professional performance again.

Together with the driver quartet Jasper / Lefterov / Umbrarescu / Piana, the team celebrated the seventh place overall. In SPX standings, the German team supported by MOTUL, went secondly to the finish line and cheered when the trophy was handed over.

It is done: The 24-hour race at Portimao is completed. The Wegberg-based team Leipert Motorsport traveled to Portugal at the beginning of last week to make a sporting exclamation mark at the 24 Hours of Portimao.

Together with the driver quartet John-Louis Jasper (23, Germany), Pavel Lefterov (20, Bulgaria), Razvan Umbrarescu (25, Romania) and Gabriele Piana (31, Italy), the team delivered a remarkable performance.

Already in the training the team interfered among the top 10. Especially amazing: Gabriele Piana was double starter at the weekend. After the Friday training, the Italian flew to the VLN race Nürburgring and came back to Portugal directly after the race.

With a bit of luck to the pole position

The Portuguese race track was at its best. At 30 degrees in the shade, it was the first qualifying session in which young Bulgarian Pavel Lefterov showed his potential: In just 1:47:727 minutes, the 25-year-old Bulgarian encircled the approximately 4.692 kilometers long race course and secured himself and his team the second-best lap time of the class SPX (overall: P11).

After some competitors got penalties, the Leipert Lamborghini #10 slipped two places forwards in the starting grid and could contest the race from position nine, so in SPX class from pole position.

Smooth race despite of 4h interruption of the race - In the end the team celebrated P2

The Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo ran like clockwork - not least thanks to the perfect work of the Leipert crew who took care to the Italian racing bull. During the first hours, the constant duel between the Leipert-Lamborghini and the Manthey-Porsche was amazing for the spectators.

Again and again, Lamborghini and Porsche swapped places. However, the team noted quickly that the Manthey-Porsche, still without BOP classification, was unbeatable.

Shortly before midnight, the red flags were waved to stop the race after problems at the official tank facilities, where apparently several hundred liters of fuel ran out.  Four hours later the race was resumed. Manthey was the profiteer of the interruption of the race. With more than a lap ahead of the class the leader was indomitable.

All four drivers showed their professional side. The driver changes went smoothly and there were also no outstanding differences in the lap times. So, it was hardly surprising, as the Huracán #10 crossed the finish line on P2 in class SPX and P7 overall.

On the podium, the Leipert Motorsport Quartet was acclaimed by the team. A long race weekend, at which the performance was rewarded with a trophy, came to an end.

At the beginning of September, all 560 hp of the Lamborghini will be collected again - and then it's off to the next round: the 24-hour race in Barcelona is already marked in the calendar (07.-09.09.2018).
