Future F4 SEA Champions Take Sepang!

Future F4 SEA Champions Take Sepang!

18.07.2018: The Formula 4 South East Asia Championship – fueled by Petron – had an amazing weekend filled with edge-of-your-seat action that left us wanting more

The Formula 4 South East Asia Championship – fueled by Petron – had an amazing weekend filled with edge-of-your-seat action that left us wanting more.

Not even the unpredictable tropical weather enveloping the Sepang International Circuit could distract from focusing on the race talent that was developing in leaps and bounds lap by lap. With that, let’s take a look at how the Event Championship went down.

•    3 action packed races all with world-class driver talent of the future

•    3 race winners – one driver (Alessandro Ghiretti) led all races at one point

•    F4SEA is producing the next generation of Asian talent

•    Live-delayed TV to over 100 million homes

The amazing action came courtesy of brilliant and talented young drivers from the region and beyond, graduating from karting these drivers are already kart winners and include Alessandro Ghiretti (15 France), Muizz Musyaffa (16 Malaysia), Kane Shepherd (17 Thailand), Antoine Potty (15 Belgium), Timothy Yeo (20 Malaysia) and Adam D’Agostino (21 Canada).

These world-class drivers are all future leaders all on the first step (F4SEA) of the FIA ladder to F1 in Asia and provided some action-packed racing for our live-delayed broadcast to over 100 million homes.

Kane Shepherd took the ‘FIA 2018 Formula 4 SEA Event Champions’ title with 67 points while the young Belgium Antoine Potty amassed 45 points on his rookie debut in formula racing.

Alessandro Ghiretti and Muizz Musyaffa diced for the lead in all three races and ended the weekend with 43 points each. The tie-breaker was the fastest lap of Race 3, which the Malaysian secured. Guest driver Aidan Wright scored 30 points while the rapidly improving Luke Thompson took home 24. Timothy Yeo earned 22 points followed by rookies Adam D’Agostino and Liam Lawrence who were also tied for 15 points. Adam broke the tie.

The Kingdom of Thailand Strikes Again

Happy-go-lucky racer Kane Shepherd of Pattaya is your average teenager. But, that all changes when a racing suit and helmet is applied. The once light-hearted teen turns into a ferocious athlete with an insatiable appetite for victory.

Shepherd took the fastest time in Qualifying and victory in the first race of Event 2. He gathered three fastest times, two runner up positions and a victory which earns him 67 points and the Event Champions title. His second one of the season.

From Europe with Love

How can we not love the French; they’ve gifted the world with amazing inventions such as aspirin, pasteurization, the stethoscope and many more. They’ve even won the FIFA world cup and our hearts. However there is one greater to come out of France.

Enter Alessandro Ghiretti. This curly haired racer who calls Morocco home has been tearing up the asphalt in almost every F4 SEA endeavour. The Frenchman first took the wheel of an F4 SEA car in the grand finals of the 2017-18 season, his rookie efforts landed him the event champion’s title of the fifth event in 2017-18 and snatched up third place in the Rookie Event Champion standing.

The incredibly talented Ghiretti is poised for motorsport greatness; just like his European compatriot that joined the Championship for the first time – Antoine Potty of Belgium. The quiet 15-year-old racer shares a commonality with Ghiretti for being an astute driver and a fast learner.

The popular Hamoir-native (Belgium) in his first outing with Formula 4 South East Asia, bagged the Event Champions’ runner-up spot with a total of 45 points but took home the Rookie Event Champion title.

Potty pipped Ghiretti by just 2 points.  The duo exhibited an amazing show of talent and driving prowess, wowing the massive live streamed race fans. Ghiretti displayed amazing pace over the weekend and perhaps lost out on the overall event title honours when his gear shift compressor failed.

Durian Runtuh

The unassuming young Malaysia’s Muizz Musyaffa is usually among his peers, focused and with a champions mindset, Muizz is the first to arrive to the track over the race weekend and he takes care to make sure his engineers are refreshed and motivated to support him for the long day ahead.

The youth who calls Kuantan (Malaysia) his home is also the recipient of the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Scholarship in conjunction with FIA F4 SEA, to build and nurture the daring young talent.

Muizz fought valiantly throughout the weekend to take over the lead and finally proved his talent by winning the final race, he was rewarded 43 points and 3rd place in the overall FIA F4 SEA Event Champions Title. Joining him was yet another familiar face - Timothy Yeo. The calm and composed racer is a formidable force that sees F4 SEA as great means of acquiring experience.

O Canada!

Coming in at six-foot two inches and weighing 175lbs from the Great White North is none other than Adam D’Agostino. The lad of Italian-decent voyaged over 20 hours just to be let loose on 5.543km of perfection.

He describes his experience as being “one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done and just can’t get enough of it”. Adam, with the help of driver coaches was making excellent progress and looks to F4 SEA to build a career in motorsports.

The FIA-certified Championship is Asia’s premier most driver development trophy that seeks to not just profile and promote talented young drivers but also gives them an avenue to acquire the skills and experience necessary to climb the FIA ladder to the highest echelons of motorsports.

The Formula 4 South East Asia Championship employs an interesting means of keeping the tournament competitive for racers with commitments such as classes. Out of the 24 races in the season, only the best 18 scores will be calculated. This affords drivers the flexibility that other championships don’t.

Alternatively, please visit and follow the Formula 4 South East Asia Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram pages for updates on all the happenings of the Championship.
