The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports team is ready to take the big stage and kick off the first round of the 2018 F1 eSports Series at the Gfinity Arena in London today.

After more than 60,000 gamers took part in the initial qualifying phase, the 40 fastest drivers took a place in the Pro Draft in July. That was whittled down to just 16 elite racers, representing nine Teams.
The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team drivers Salih and Sonuç Santunç, and Allert van der Wal, are ready to fight for ambitious results, and look forward to tackling the biggest challenge of their simulator racing careers. The first three races will take place on some of the most renowned circuits of the world, including the Albert Park Circuit, Shanghai International Circuit, and the Baku City Circuit.
A prize pool of up to $200,000 and the chance to be crowned the 2018 F1 eSports Series champion will be awarded.
Salih Saltunç, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team driver:
“I am happy that we will start the championship by competing on the track at Albert Park. It is a circuit I really enjoy racing on, because street tracks are my favourite.
It will be interesting to come face to face with the best eSports drivers in the world and we are excited to take on this challenge. We will use all of our energy to win the victories we deserve.”
Sonuç Saltunç, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team driver:
“I am excited for the first round of the season, which will be kicked off by a race on the Melbourne circuit. It is a track that I really enjoy racing on in the simulator.
The Shanghai circuit is also a nice one, with the mix of high-speed straights and corners it features giving us an extra challenge. We are in a strong position to challenge for wins – our focus will be on reaching the ultimate goal, which is to win the championship.”
Allert van der Wal, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team driver:
“The first round is going to be an interesting one. I am very happy with the selection of circuits – having the Albert Park Circuit, the Shanghai International Circuit, and the Baku City Circuit on the list is great.
Our focus is on achieving strong qualifying results on all of the tracks. As the real F1 races at these tracks have shown, anything can happen, and I am eager to see what we can achieve.”
Jamie MacLaurin, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team Manager and Veloce Esports Founder:
“Our drivers have come a long way – from competing among more than 60,000 gamers to qualifying as three of the 16 best eSports drivers in the world in the Pro Draft in July.
We have worked hard to prepare them for their next big challenge, and making sure that they are in good shape has been our number one priority ahead of the first round of the season which will start today.
We are very proud of their performance so far, and are convinced that they can achieve great results if they maintain their chemistry as a team. We look forward to kicking off the season.”
