In a night that celebrates each of the 24H SERIES’ hard-working competitors, the main event is undoubtedly the trophy handover.

Competitors, series sponsors and partners, and other honoured guests closed out the 2018 European Championship in enthusiastic fashion this past weekend at CREVENTIC’s annual ‘Night of Champions’ at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Taking place mere hours after the chequered flag had flown for the 2018 Hankook 12H SPA, the event celebrated the hard work and passion of each of the year’s competitors in the series’ customary relaxed fashion.

Alongside the entertainment, the Night of Champions, now in its third year, was headlined by our newly crowned title winners receiving their championship trophies.

Overall Champions

Having secured a remarkable four class wins in succession on its maiden season in A6-Am with the Mercedes-AMG GT3, last year’s 991-class champions PROsport Performance (#85) ultimately took both the outright 24H GT SERIES championship and the A6-class title by just three points over fellow A6-Am rivals, Car Collection Motorsport (#34).

In doing so, Charles Espenlaub, Joe Foster and Charles Putman also claimed outright GT and A6-class Drivers’ honours ahead of Elmar Grimm, Johannes Dr. Kirchhoff and Ingo Vogler.

The overall 24H TCE SERIES meanwhile was won by Hofor Racing bei Bonk Motorsport (#131), the Swiss-run BMW M235i Racing Cup claiming the tin top title one round early in Portimão courtesy of four successive wins in the first four European Championship rounds.

Victory at Spa-Francorchamps concluded a dominant season for Martin Kroll, Gustav Engljaehringer, Michael Fischer and Michael Schrey, who also collected the overall TCE Drivers’ title over teammate Bernd Küpper, as well as the CUP1 class Teams’ and Drivers’ season honours.

Alongside their championship trophies, each of our class champions received bespoke prizes from long-time 24H SERIES powered by Hankook sponsor, Stand21. Overall GT Drivers’ champions Espenlaub, Foster and Putman received specially customized race boots, while TCE Drivers’ champions Kroll, Engljaehringer, Fischer and Schrey were each gifted a bespoke helmet bag.

Alongside their trophies and prizes, both PROsport Performance and Hofor-Racing bei Bonk Motorsport have also received free entry to the 2019 Hankook 12H MUGELLO, set to take place on 28-29-30 March.

Class Champions – GT

Following a successful run that included class victory at the Hankook 12H SILVERSTONE back in March, Speed Lover (#78) dutifully became SPX category champions in 2018 over Leipert Motorsport (#10), American Dominique Bastien simultaneously clinching the category’s Drivers’ crown.

In 991, Porsche Lorient Racing secured an impressive 1-2 in-class, although the #64 Porsche 991-I Cup would ultimately best the sister #65 by just six points. The fight for the drivers’ crown would be even closer, with Pascal Gibon and Frédéric Ancel ending the season tied on points, despite sharing the same car only once all year. Across the season, the French compatriots ultimately finished just three points clear of Porsche Lorient Racing teammate, Lionel Amrouche.

In 2018, VDS Racing Adventure (#58) became SP2 class champions for the second consecutive year, thanks to category wins at both Navarra and Spa-Francorchamps. Unlike last year however, Raphaël van der Straten now gladly shares the class drivers’ crown with VDS Racing Adventure teammate, José Close.

A hard-fought season saw QSR Racingschool (#254) take the inaugural GT4 Teams’ championship, despite the Belgian retiring early from the Hankook 12H SPA after a monster shunt in the early going. Belgian compatriots Bert Redant, Michiel Verhaeren and Mario Timmers likewise secured the GT4 Drivers’ title, rubberstamping the trio’s class win at Navarra.

Class Champions – TCE

Over in TCE, a tense season finale at Spa-Francorchamps ultimately saw Red (#303) take the top spot over series stalwarts, NKPP Racing by Bas Koeten Racing (#175), despite the latter taking its first class win of the year in Belgium. The two teams were separated by just four points in the end.

The TCR drivers’ fight meanwhile was even closer, with Bas Koeten Racing’s Antti Buri and Red Camel’s Ivo Breukers finishing level pegged on points. Finland’s Buri would ultimately get the nod courtesy of two class wins to Breuker’s one.

Series favourites CWS Engineering (#178) secured its second consecutive SP3 class Teams’ championship, fittingly, with its second class win of the season at the Hankook 12H SPA. In accordance, Colin White adds another trophy to an already expansive silverware collection with his second successive SP3 Drivers’ crown.

Having bookended its season with class podium finishes, PDM Motorsport (#999) became A3 Teams’ champions on home soil in Belgium having pipped out-going TCE champions Synchro Motorsport (#76) by just two points. Teammates Dimitri Kluyskens, Maxence Vandekerckhove and Pierre de Landsheere ably secured the A3 Drivers’ title as well.

Ladies and Juniors Cups – GT and TCE

For the third successive year, Chantal Prinz – formerly Kroll – walked away with a championship, the Swiss national securing the Ladies Cup in the 2018 24H GT SERIES after a solid campaign with Hofor-Racing (#1).

For the second year in a row, Car Collection Motorsport’s Max Edelhoff walked away with the Junior Cup in the 24H GT SERIES after an impressive season that featured an A6-Am class victory at Navarra. Over in the TCE division, Michael Fischer added to his already impressive haul of trophies by securing the TCE Junior Cup as well at Spa-Francorchamps.

Prizes from Stand21 and Speedcom Communications

To round off the Night of Champions, long-time series partners Stand21 gifted a selection of prizes to the competitors that finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class. Drivers classified in the top three in A6 and SP2 received customized boots (A6 also received personalized underwear), while those in SPX, 991, TCR, SP3, A3, CUP1 and GT4 walked away with customized helmet bags. The GT4 pilots were also gifted brand new HANS devices.

To add to their newly acquired gold, both Junior Cup winners and our new Ladies champion each received tailor-made helmet bags from Stand21, while Prinz and Edelhoff gladly accepted a uniquely designed HANS device as well.

Motorsport radio and communications systems specialists Speedcom Communications similarly awarded each of our class Drivers’ champions – plus our Ladies Cup and Junior Cup winners – with a 250 euro gift voucher eligible across the company’s extensive product range. All class-winning teams meanwhile received a voucher from Hankook, which can be put towards a set of tyres at next year’s Hankook 12H MUGELLO.

The Championship of the Continents

The season finale of this year’s Championship of the Continents is just four weeks away, and will take place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, on 16-17-18 November.
