Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team fights back in F1 eSports event two

02.11.2018: The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team has fought back in the second event of the Pro Series with Salih and Sonuç Saltunç entering the competition, and bringing home a decent points haul for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships

The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team has fought back in the second event of the Pro Series with Salih and Sonuç Saltunç entering the competition, and bringing home a decent points haul for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships.

The team is now fighting for 3rd overall in the Constructors’ Championship alongside Red Bull Racing Esports and Hype Energy eForce India, while drivers Salih and Sonuç Saltunç have moved up to 5th and 14th place respectively in the Drivers’ Championship.

Both drivers picked up top-ten finishes in two of the three races in the evening, the first of which was at the Circuit Paul Ricard high-speed. Salih finished in 6th after starting in 8th on the grid, while Sonuç picked up an eight-second time penalty that bumped him down to 17th place at the end.

In the next race at Silverstone, Salih was able to capitalise on a late pit stop to be in the hunt for a podium finish. On the final lap he managed to overtake both Marcel Kiefer and Fabrizio Donoso with a stunning move on the final corner, however the stewards later issued a penalty post-race that relegated him to 7th.

Sonuç pitted earlier on in the race which meant he was caught up in traffic, but he fought back to secure 5th and with it another impressive points haul.

In the final outing at Spa-Francorchamps, Salih again left it until the very end to capitalise on points by joining the battle between the championship leaders Frederik Rasmussen and Brendon Leigh.

The pair were wheel-to-wheel in the final few corners and after a slow exit from the Bus Stop Chicane, Salih drove alongside to make it three-wide at the line to finish ahead of Leigh in 4th – the trio separated by just 0.025s.

Further down Sonuç managed to hold off Tino Naukkarinen in the Williams to finish in 8th, another great fight back into the points from 11th on the grid.

The results put the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team up to 4th in the Constructors’ Standings, and just one point away from Red Bull heading into the final round which is set to take place once again at the Gfinity Arena in London on 17th November.

Driver Standings After Event 2:

5th: Salih Saltunç – 38 points
14th: Sonuç Saltunç – 14 points

Team Standings After Event 2:

4th: Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team – 58 points

Salih Saltunç, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team Driver:

“A really exciting evening for the team and some mega points scored. The hard work is paying off and we are seeing much improved results from event one. We have lots more work to put in to finish the championship on a high and keep climbing those standings.”

Sonuç Saltunç, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 eSports Team Driver:

“I’m proud of how we reacted as a team from event one, picking up some good points at each of the three tracks. It puts us right back in the hunt in the Constructors’ Championship and it’s all to play for heading into the final event in a fortnight.”
