Chareyre Brothers add drama to second consecutive family win
|
BUSCA (ITALY), 5 October 2008 –
A thrilling penultimate round of the 2008 campaign prepared what will be a fantastic finale in Greece in a couple of weeks.
With Thomas Chareyre winning an eventful S1 Grand Prix and Thierry Van Den Bosch being disqualified in heat one Bernd Hiemer capitalized on his Championship lead. The latter was third on the podium as local favourite Ivan Lazzarini was second.
Adrien Chareyre won the S2 class making it another Chareyre one-two after the very first time two brothers won a GP in the same day at Andorra. Chareyre capitalized on his lead as runner up Davide Gozzini crashed in heat two. The "Gozzo" was second on the podium ahead of Christian Iddon rounding off his first season’s rostrum.
In the UEM SuperMoto series Fabrizio Bartolini wrapped up the overall in the Open class with Luca D’Addato securing the Championship lead courtesy of a second overall. In the S3 class Olivier Scheen won the round from Championship leader Oliver Pope and Matteo Traversa.
S1
It was an eventful S1 Grand Prix with Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre taking his second consecutive win as KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer built on his Championship lead courtesy of a third overall. DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Thierry Van Den Bosch was disqualified in heat one because of being too hot in his attack to Hiemer for first as both crashed. In the second heat VDB won but lost valuable points to Hiemer in the Championship.
VDB’s team mate Ivan Lazzarini salvaged the weekend with a solid second overall as he made a mistake and crashed in heat one. Eddy Seel and Fabio Balducci rounded off the top five with VDB being an eventual eighth.
After a positive first heat in third place Jerome Giraudo crashed hard in the following heat and was immediately brought to the Santa Croce e Carle Hospital in Cuneo. The rider is currently undergoing the necessary tests in order to evaluate his condition.
Top five overall: 1. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 45 points; 2. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 40 p.; 3. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), 40 p.; 4. Eddy Seel (BEL, Suzuki), 32 p.; 5. Fabio Balducci (ITA, Suzuki), 30 p.
Thomas Chareyre won his second consecutive GP and also second of the 2008 season
S1 RACE 1
Hiemer took the holeshot with VDB following and Chareyre completing a quick trio pulling away from the rest of the field. As the race went on Lazzarini crashed when he was in fourth with Giraudo also falling as Van Den Bosch tried a move on Hiemer causing the crash of both.
Hiemer and Van Den Bosch went back on the bike to take third and second respectively but later on the Frenchman was disqualified for his move and taken off the standings. Chareyre was handed victory after the crash with Giraudo moving up to third after a dramatic recovery. Lazzarini recovered as well to fourth with Seel fifth.
Top five: 1. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 18:55.719; ; 2. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), +0:09.527; 3. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), +0:10.885; 4. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), +0:12.012; 5. Eddy Seel (BEL, Suzuki), +0:15.278
S1 RACE 2
The final heat was red flagged after Giraudo’s crash on the sky section. At that moment VDB was leading ahead of Lazzarini and Chareyre courtesy of a storming start. The moto restarted later on with another holeshot by Van Den Bosch who stormed to a perfect victory. Lazzarini followed in second as he closed all doors to a quick Chareyre ending third for the overall victory. Hiemer held the third place until Chareyre moved past; the German was an eventual fourth ahead of Seel.
Top five: 1. Thierry van den Bosch (FRA, Aprilia), 18:49.432; ; 2. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), +0:03.434; 3. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:06.477; 4. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), +0:08.754; 5. Eddy Seel (BEL, Suzuki), +0:15.126
S2
Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre took a solid victory on rival Gozzini’s ground as the latter fell after dominating most of heat one. TM Factory Racing’s Davide Gozzini was out for revenge in heat two and won to secure the second overall position.
A mistake by Chareyre in heat two saw his overall advantage on Gozzini slim to five points only while PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon mounted on the podium for the first time this season. Other Husqvarna CH Racing rider Gerald Delepine was fourth with BRT’s Paolo Gaspardone fifth. After a positive third in heat one Attilio Pignotti dropped to sixth overall due to a troubled final moto.
A broken left hand saw Luca Minutilli drop down the rankings in seventh.
Top five overall: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 45 points; 2. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 40 p.; 3. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), 40 p.; 4. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), 38 p.; 5. Paolo Gaspardone (ITA, Husaberg), 31 p.
S2 RACE 1
Gozzini stormed into turn one followed by Chareyre as the duo pulled away from the rest of the field. The rest of the pack was headed by Iddon who entered a three way battle for third with Delepine and Pignotti. Delepine moved past for third but the final lap brought major changes to the classification. Gozzini crashed and handed victory to Chareyre with Iddon also crashing out to hand Pignotti an eventual third. Iddon settled in fourth with Gozzini sixth.
Top five: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 19:00.030; ; 2. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:04.221; 3. Attilio Pignotti (ITA, KTM), +0:06.178; 4. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), +0:13.047; 5. Paolo Gaspardone (ITA, Husaberg), +0:15.668
S2 RACE 2
Being a man out for revenge Gozzini dominated from the start to the flag winning his only heat of the day. Chareyre made a mistake while battling with Gozzini and stalled the bike at the exit of the sky section. The mistake saw the Championship leader drop down to an eventual third as Iddon took the silver medal. Occhini took a solid fourth after a final lap defense from Delepine – the defending Champion also stalled the bike at the sky section ending fifth behind the Italian young gun.
Top five: 1. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 19:03.356; ; 2. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), +0:03.877; 3. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:06.540; 4. Andrea Occhini (ITA, Husaberg), +0:08.663; 5. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:08.837
IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS STANDINGS
Hiemer brought his advantage in the S1 Championship to 29 points from Van Den Bosch. There will probably be a dogfight for the runner up spot in Greece with VDB, Chareyre and Lazzarini spread in seven points.
Top ten: 1. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), 274 points; 2. Thierry van den Bosch (FRA, Aprilia), 245 p.; 3. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 241 p.; 4. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 238 p.; 5. Matthew Winstanley (GBR, KTM), 175 p.; 6. Sylvain Bidart (FRA, Husqvarna), 173 p.; 7. Boris Chambon (FRA, TM), 159 p.; 8. Fabio Balducci (ITA, Suzuki), 151 p.; 9. Eddy Seel (BEL, Suzuki), 137 p.; 10. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), 134 p.
Chareyre is 11 points ahead of Gozzini who will surely chase him down in an all or nothing finale in Greece. Delepine pulled away from Pignotti as he sits in third ahead of the Italian with Minutilli being a solid fifth. Courtesy of today’s top performance Iddon stormed to sixth with absent Beltrami dropping to ninth.
Top ten: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 320 points; 2. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 309 p.; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), 249 p.; 4. Attilio Pignotti (ITA, KTM), 225 p.; 5. THE UEM EUROPEAN SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP
Olivier Scheen took a hard fought win ahead of S3 Championship leader Oliver Pope as both went one-two in the heats. Wrapping up the final moto Scheen put himself ahead of Pope in the overall coming back to second in the Championship as well. Matteo Traversa took the third spot with Alessandro Asnicar fourth. The latter dropped back to third in the Championship.
Luca D’Addato completed the mission of moving ahead of Heino Meusburger and he is now the new Championship leader. With Fabrizio Bartolini taking the overall victory D’Addato was a solid second ahead of Italian countryman Alberto Dall’Era rounding off the podium. Uros Nastran and Edgardo Borella completed the top five. Meusburger again had a bad day ending eight overall and moving down to second in the Championship.
