Daniil Move on track today in his Formula S2000
Alan Racing’s Daniil Move scored his first pole of the season today at Monza for the Series’ penultimate round in a closely-fought qualifying session that ended with the top ten drivers posting times within one second of each other.
Whilst the earlier part of the session saw the fastest lap alternating between FM champion Jérôme D’Ambrosio, Move and his team-mate, Pablo Sanchez Lopez, the second half of the 30-minute period was dominated by the Russian.
Scuderia Famà’s Luca Persiani equalled his free practice pace and starts in second place for tomorrow’s race, whilst Cram Competition’s Jérôme D’Ambrosio, fastest in both sessions this morning, wasn’t able to translate his earlier pace into pole and posted third fastest.
J.D. Motorsport’s Chris van der Drift narrowly missed out on the top three and will start in fourth with Alan Racing’s Pablo Sanchez Lopez in fifth place.
Nicolas Maulini, driving for Iris Project, claimed his best qualifying position of the season with the sixth fastest lap whilst fellow Swiss Rahel Frey followed just 0.068secs behind in seventh place.
Japan’s Hajime Sugino missed out on today’s qualifying due to an earlier crash in free practice. The Euronova Racing driver only suffered minor bruises however and hopes to take part in tomorrow’s race, providing his car is repaired on time.
This weekend will see the Formula Master team title decided with Cram Competition, J.D. Motorsport and Alan Racing still in contention. Currently leading, Cram Competition has 114 points with J.D. Motorsport in second place (89 points) and Alan Racing in third with 83 points.
Daniil Move, Alan Racing
"We saw this morning that the car was really good in the first sector and it was the same in qualifying. I think we could even go quicker, I didn’t use any slipstream on any of my laps. I think most of the teams arrived in Monza with a similar set-up and the key is to play around and see what difference you can get. We had a good car for the first sector straight away and I think I can improve my performance in third sector too, so tomorrow should be good!
I really needed this result as my season hasn’t gone that well in the other racing that I do; now I can look forward to enjoying the races this weekend and also next year. This pole was very important to me and I want to thank my team and sponsors too."
Luca Persiani, Scuderia Famà
"I couldn’t improve my time at the end of the session because of the yellow flags otherwise I could have been on pole for sure. I had the pace to be two or three tenths faster and the car felt perfect. I really wanted to be on pole, this is my home race as well as the team’s and it’s the last weekend of the season! For the race, I hope we have good pace, I’m definitely aiming for a podium!"
Jérôme D’Ambrosio, Cram Competition
"It’s a shame I didn’t get pole, it would have been nice to make it two in a row but we were missing a little something on the new tyres. It’s so close here and overtaking is definitely possible, so let’s focus on tomorrow’s race; hopefully we can get a great result."
