Barcelona F1 test day 3 - morning short news

20.02.2019: F1 Barcelona test 01 - day 3 Circuit Barcelona - Catalunya Wednesday, February 20th 2019 After bringing out the red flags

F1 Barcelona test 01 - day 3
Circuit Barcelona - Catalunya
Wednesday, February 20th 2019

After bringing out the red flags half an hour or so ago, Pietro Fittipaldi is out and lapping again in the Haas VF-19.

The American squad will be relieved that their problems weren't more serious, with Romain Grosjean set to go back in the car this afternoon. Before his stoppage, meanwhile, Fittipaldi was following closely in the wheeltracks of Valtteri Bottas' Mercedes - let's see what he learnt as the clock ticks down towards lunch.

So we are back underway now that Fittpaldi's Haas has been recovered back to the pits.

We've seen plenty of spins across this week but not many reliability issues - Haas will have a busy lunch as they try to discover what went wrong there.

Fittipaldi is stationary trackside

Our first red flag of the day is for the Haas driver, he has pulled over trackside with smoking brakes, and obviously some technical issues. This isn't the first reliability issue for Haas - Grosjean stopped on track on Monday.

McLaren finally emerge

Carlos Sainz has finally jumping into the MCL34 and headed out on track after those lengthy set up changes. McLaren finished second in the standings both yesterday and on Monday, and certainly the portents were good.

What are they capable of today?

Hulkenberg has improved to a 1m 19.544s, which is good enough for P3. Still no sign of that Renault DRS being used, but the German is putting in some solid lap times nonetheless.

Sainz has been exploring - he used the escape road at Turn 10 a few moments ago, before just running wide over the kerbs. That won't have done his floor much good, nor helped in keeping those tyres up to temperature.
