Aston Martin: From pole position and fifth spot into the first race.
The pole position of Florian Thoma and Aston Martin enters the history books, because it was the first pole position of a new racing series, the ADAC GT4 Germany. With this, the 23-year-old Swiss and PROpeak Performance set the first accents. However, Thoma could not capitalize on that because his race ended early in the fifth lap after a puncture followed by a heavy impact on the barriers. Because the #18 Vantage could not be repaired on-site, Thoma and Jérémie Lesoudier (France) were condemned to follow the second race as spectators.
Joonas Lappalainen (Finland) and Joerg Viebahn (Germany) took eighth place in the second race for the first points of the team from Wiesemscheid, Germany, near the Nürburgring. The #19 Vantage would probably have reached the finish in fourth or fifth, if the two-time GT4 European Champion Viebahn, whose first race ended prematurely in the gravel bed, had not been twice forced by subsequent drivers to leave the track.
Team principal Christoph Esser: "At the premiere in the ADAC GT4 Germany we experienced light and shadow. The pole position and a fourth and a fifth grid position were a strong performance, in the races were not only missing a little luck, but also some speed. For our GT4 department it is important as well, that we learn from the experience quickly and we already want to capitalize on the weekend at Brands Hatch in the GT4 European Series capital out of it."
Very little time was left to prepare the two cars, especially the #18 Vantage, which the PROpeak mechanics repaired for the start at Brands Hatch directly at Aston Martin Racing (AMR) in Banbury, England, while the #19 Vantage was prepared in Wiesemscheid, Germany. In Oschersleben, Aston Martin Racing was present with a total of six people and a large spare part truck to support PROpeak Performance.
