Season-Best Fourth-Place Qualifying Effort at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Hardeman in just Third IMSA GT Daytona (GTD) Race
 



Will Hardeman will start Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race on the outside of the second row in the GT Daytona (GTD) class field after qualifying the No. 19 CAG/Moorespeed Audi R8 LMS fourth on Saturday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.


Hardeman turned a top lap time of 1:26.951 (93.486 mph) in the 15-minute qualifying session on the 2.258-mile circuit. The session ran on a damp, cool track, with the Moorespeed Audi out on Michelin slick tires. Hardeman’s ultimate fast time came on his final lap of the session.


“Our approach to this qualifying today was just to be conservative and feel the grip level of the track, no matter what it was,” Hardeman said. “I had to go find for myself where the fast line was in every corner and evaluate every single one on its own rather than treat it as a wet track or a dry track. I just put it all together and really had some clean laps. They were conservative and clean and that’s what did the job at the end of the day.”


Hardeman co-drives with Alex Riberas with the support of Bardahl and Audi Genuine Parts in Sunday’s two-hour and 40-minute race, the third round of the season-long IMSA GTD championship. The starting position is the best of the young season for both Moorespeed and Hardeman in their first year of IMSA GTD competition.


“The team’s been working really hard,” Moorespeed President David Moore said. “It’s a result that we need. We start off in a good position and we’ve got the race to look forward to. I think we’ve got a good car for Mid-Ohio and it’s nice to be competitive.”



A 20-minute warmup session for the IMSA WeatherTech Championship gets Sunday’s schedule underway at 8:00 a.m. EDT before that afternoon’s two-hour and 40-minute race that goes green at 1:40 p.m. EDT. The Mid-Ohio round will air live beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT on both NBC Sports Network and the NBCSN app in the United States, and IMSA.tv for the international audience.
