Robinson Starts in Sixth Row for IMSA WeatherTech Championship GTD Debut in the No. 74 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Aschenbach at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
 



Gar Robinson qualified the No. 74 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 on the sixth row today at Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course for the team’s 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) debut Sunday.



Robinson starts 12th for Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute race behind the wheel of the No. 74 before handing off to co-driver Lawson Aschenbach. The Lone Star Racing team races with support of ACS Manufacturing and 74 Ranch Resort.



Robinson turned his fast lap of 1:30.778 (89.545 mph) late in the 15-minute session under tricky conditions on a damp and cool track. It was the first time the Trans Am Champion has qualified a car in IMSA WeatherTech competition.
 


“I think that was my best session so far this weekend,” Robinson said. “This is only my fifth day in a car with aero. With the damp track, this car felt like what I was used to in Trans Am. The rear end would step out a little bit and I thought I can live with this! The car worked well for me. I think it really fits my and Lawson's driving style. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 is a great 'swiss army knife' of a car. I’m really happy with it and excited to get it up to the front tomorrow.”
Once Robinson steps out of the car around the midway point of the race, Aschenbach wiil take over for the run to the checkered flag.




“It’s been a great weekend so far,” Aschenbach said. “We’re playing catch up this weekend because all of these other guys have run Daytona and Sebring, and that’s a lot of time and a lot of experience on these Micheloin tires, which are still fairly new to everybody. We’re getting there. We’re pleased with the progress. The Lone Star Racing team is doing a great job. I’m very optimistic going into tomorrow.”
 



The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule continues Sunday with a 20-minute warmup at 8:00 a.m. EDT, and peaks with that afternoon’s two-hour and 40-minute race that goes green at 1:40 p.m. EDT. The race from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course can be seen live beginning at 1:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Network and the NBCSN app.
