Renault F1 Team is in Suzuka for the seventeenth race of the 2019 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the Japanese Grand Prix.

The Circuit

• Suzuka first hosted a Formula 1 race in 1987 and, ever since, has been a popular racing venue for teams and drivers.

• It’s regarded as one of the ultimate circuits for man and machine with 18 corners across 5.807km of twists, turns and elevation changes.

• It’s a power-hungry track with 72% of a lap spent at full throttle. Over 57 minutes of the race is spent at full throttle, the most time of any Grand Prix on the 2019 calendar.

The Team

• Renault has powered ten wins in Japan - the joint-most of all engine manufacturers - nine at Suzuka and one in Fuji.

• Renault also has the most pole positions in Japan, ten, and the most podium finishes with 25.

• Fernando Alonso’s victory in Fuji in 2008 is the team’s last Grand Prix victory as a full manufacturer.

• Between 2006 and 2013, Renault engines won six out of eight Japanese Grand Prix.

• Typhoon Hagibis is set to reach Japan this weekend.

• A Typhoon is a violent wind that has a circular movement, found in the West Pacific Ocean.

• Around 30 typhoons form every year over the northwest Pacific Ocean, with around three reaching the main islands of Japan.

• In Japan, typhoons are numbered; Hagibis is number 19.

• Seven out of 30 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka (23.3%) have been rain-affected.

• In 2004, Typhoon Ma-on forced qualifying to be postponed until the morning of Sunday’s race. Six years later, heavy rainfall passed over Suzuka meaning again, qualifying was postponed to Sunday morning just hours before the race.

• In 2014, Typhoon Phanfone brought heavy rain to Suzuka.

Renault Sport Academy

• Renault Sport Academy Driver Victor Martins took three wins from four races in Hockenheim and Barcelona and will go to the final round of the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup looking to win the title.

• Caio Collet sealed the Eurocup Rookie Championship in Hockenheim after picking up two third place finishes.
