Campos-Hull praises Formula S2000’s Safety

Three corners of his Formula S2000 were written off in the accident, which saw the car veer out of control around a chicane before somersaulting into the air. The youngster’s team, Iris Project, later said the car’s wishbones, floors, rear wing had front wing had all been damaged by the impact, but mechanics were relaxed about getting it repaired in time for IFM’s testing at the Lausitzring, near Berlin today.

"I was at Mc Donald’s corner; I was sliding and I touched the curb," said the 20-year-old, who says this was the worst accident of his career so far. "The front wheels were not touching the ground and I was spinning and started to flip. Then I landed OK. I was definitely shaken up but I didn’t see everything because I let go of the steering wheel and covered my chest so it wasn’t scary in the end.

"These cars are safe and, after today, I don’t think you can get hurt. I will be the same as always when I race again. I wouldn’t be slower because I had the accident."

Campos Hull had worked his way up to 11th from 17th on the grid when he lost control of the car.
