Extreme E, the pioneering electric SUV off-road racing series, has agreed a multi-year deal with TVNZ that will see the championship screened live to households across New Zealand from Season 1.
Five two-hour live programmes will ensure that the action from on-stage at every event of Extreme E’s global odyssey will be covered, with the championship embarking on a five-event journey to spectacular, formidable locations damaged by climate change or human interference, starting January 2021.
Extreme E will head to the Himalayas, Greenland, the Amazon, Saudi Arabia and Dakar in Senegal, with the goal of highlighting the impact of climate change and human interference whilst promoting the adoption of electric vehicles to help protect the planet and drive change.
Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E, said: “We’re delighted to announce this long-term deal with TVNZ. The partnership is a big step for us, and will mean that Extreme E will be front-and-centre in millions of households across New Zealand.”
Melodie Robinson, TVNZ General Manager Sport and Events, said: “From extreme locations to stunning landscapes, this is an incredible event. We know motorsport enthusiasts will enjoy it, but we think Extreme E will also appeal to sport fans, environmentalists and documentary watchers.
"TVNZ holds the rights to Formula E and the Jaguar eTrophy, adding Extreme E means TVNZ owns the electric auto racing scene for Kiwi viewers. E Racing is unique and it’s the future of motorsport, we’re proud to support events that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and innovation.”
The news is the latest in a string of TV agreements announced by Extreme E, including FOX Sports covering the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, FOX Sports Asia encompassing Southeast Asia ¬– each covering Extreme E’s first three campaigns.
Season 1 starts January 2021, with further broadcast, driver, team and partner announcements to be made in the coming weeks ahead of the inaugural campaign.
