The long-awaited 2020 FIA World Rallycross season is kicking off this weekend at the legendary Rallycross circuit in Höljes , Sweden. Höljes RX plays host to two official race events in the season's calendar, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, and will welcome 5 permanent GC KOMPETITION Supercars this season!




GC KOMPETITION has grown rapidly since its inception in 2017 and is now back in 2020 with 3 teams under the GCK banner; GCK BILSTEIN, MONSTER ENERGY GCK RX CARTEL and UNKORRUPTED will be lining up on the grid to fight each other and the rest of the grid for this year’s Championship titles.



Anton Marklund first started racing with GCK in 2018 and is now back at the helm of ‘GCK BILSTEIN’ racing the GCK Mégane R.S. RX, a car which Anton has played a huge part in developing over the last couple of years. Both car and driver are ready to fight for the 2020 Championship's driver's title!



Two other GCK Mégane R.S. RX will be lining up on the grid in Höljes with Andreas Bakkerud and Liam Doran behind the wheel. The Monster Energy GCK RX Cartel will be fully focused on taking their drivers’ rallycross experience and fearless racing style to win the FIA World Rallycross Championship titles this season.



Racing a pair of newly-developed GCK Clio R.S. RX, Guerlain Chicherit and teammate Rokas Baciuška will take on the grid as UNKORRUPTED, having taken the extended off-season to do a lot of development work, both on the cars and personally, with the aim to beat any driver in their way as they fight for the win.



As GCK’s head of teams, Stephane Orré, commented: “We’ve got 5 really good drivers this year and have done a lot of work on the cars, so to be honest, we expect a lot and are aiming for the World Champion title.”




Anton Marklund


"It's been a long time since we were racing the last time, so I can't wait to finally be in a supercar on the start line again. We have done some testing during the winter but due to Covid-19, we weren't able to do all of what we had planned. I think we've improved the car quite a lot, especially on drivability and consistency, so hopefully, we can maintain a good pace across the entire weekend and build nicely on last year's successes.



It'll be super interesting to actually race properly against other drivers again on a track and see what our performance will be like. It's a strange one for me this weekend in Sweden especially, without my home crowd and my friends and family around, so I'll be pushing as much as possible for all of them."



Andreas Bakkerud


"It's been a long break now since Cape Town last year where we fought for the Championship Gold - 8 months! It took all of 4 months of winter holidays and 4 months of Coronavirus to get me back into a Supercar again, so it was a little rusty today. It took a little time to get up to speed and get the pace but overall, I'm very happy.



It's great to see the progression we're making and it shows there's huge potential in both me and the car and I'm really looking forward to the race in Höljes now. It's going to be a lot of fun and good to see the whole grid together and how we can perform under real pressure. Other than that, I'm just really, really stoked to be back."
     





Liam Doran


“Going into this weekend I am just ready to go racing. All these delays have been tough, obviously - the world is a bit of a crazy place right now. I’ve actually found the break nice but now it’s time to get back to it. The RX Cartel are coming out swinging (as always).



Höljes is not one of my favourite tracks, let’s say, but I think the GCK Mégane R.S. RX suits this track. And I know it suits me and my driving.



The competition is tough, but no doubt we'll give it everything I’ve got. The Monster Energy GCK RX Cartel is here and it’s going to be good.“






Guerlain Chicherit


"I'm stoked to finally go racing again! It's been a long off-season but the silver lining is that we've used this time to work hard on the Clio's performance but also on some key driving elements, such as specific tarmac practice, which I previously hadn't done yet.



I've had a lot more experience on gravel from my cross-country years, so putting in some tarmac time has given me a real boost and I can't wait to line up on the grid this year. Sweden will see us two UNKORRUPTED guys fight hard and it'll be a really good lineup of awesome drivers and teams to fight with."
     





Rokas Baciuska


“We had a lot of tests over recent weeks. We have been testing in France and in Sweden on different tracks and in different conditions. So far everything looks good and I feel ready for my second season in World RX. With the UNKORRUPTED team we are really close already, a real team.



It feels like we’ve been working together for years, not for a couple of months, so we are looking forward to this weekend and I can’t wait for the first race to start.”
