Following GCK Bilstein’s impressive performance at yesterday’s inaugural round of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship in Sweden, Anton Marklund didn’t disappoint today as he battled his way to the semi-finals on home soil despite numerous challenges along the way.

 
Despite a rear wheel puncture in lap 3 of the first qualifier, Marklund somehow managed to hold on to the car and put down an impressive race defending position to cross the finish line in 2nd, putting him in p12 overall.
 


Keen to fight back grid position, Marklund took no prisoners in the 2nd qualifier as he went for the joker in the first lap to then battle his way past one driver after another to take the win taking him up to p4 of Q2 and p6 overall.
 


Having dropped into p7 overall following a fierce battle and some traffic in Q3, the action didn’t stop there, as Marklund lined up on the 2nd row of the first semi-final. A decision to joker in the 2nd lap and some engine issues cost time for Marklund as he led GCK Bilstein to finish round 2 of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship in 7th overall.

“Unfortunately, we missed out on the final today - the first two corners weren’t great and we lost some time, plus some engine issues had us running low on power and then of course carnage ensued. The Megane is certainly carrying its battle scars today but I cannot wait to go to Finland.




The pace we’ve shown this entire weekend, especially on the loose surface, is really competitive and Finland should have pretty slippery surface also, so I can’t wait to show you what we can do there.”, Marklund commented.
