A fresh, bright and dry morning greeted the UNKORRUPTED squad for Round 5 of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Riga, Latvia, on the first day of the 3rd double header event of the 2020 season.
 


As the first event this season to host a crowd, eager fans were queuing up early in the morning to not miss a glimpse of the race action, bringing some of the famous live atmosphere back to the track.
 


Having had a challenging start to the season, Unkorrupted spent time pre-event in Latvia testing various elements of the GCK Clio R.S. RX. While they found the issues in set up that needed to be changed and some changes were made ahead of the race day, the UNKORRUPTED crew were aware of additional work needing to be done and expectations for round 5 of the Championship were to test the changes and gather valuable data in the different conditions the Latvian track presented to Finland and Sweden.
 


The first qualifier saw UNKORRUPTED’s Guerlain Chicherit finish in 4th with the 13th fastest time overall, while teammate Rokas Baciuska raced into P3 until a spin at the end of the 3rd lap over a curb resulted in him dropping into 4th, and P15 overall.



Q2 saw Baciuska tuck in behind Scheider into P2 following contact with Paasonen in the first corner, which later resulted in a 5 second penalty, dropping him into P16 overall.

“We knew it was going to be a tough race day here in Riga because we still have significant changes to make, which we didn’t have time to implement ahead of this round. However, I’m not one to give up and we continue to turn up for the fight and to gather the data needed to further develop the car.



The team works so hard and continues to push forward and while we don’t have the pace on the track that we need to fight for the top spots right now, this is all part of motorsport - you have to work hard and be able to take the losses to then enjoy the wins even more.”, Chicherit commented.

“Of course we are disappointed with the result, especially after having had such a great race here in Riga last year - I really love the track and the opportunity to race in front of fans again. We knew today’s racing was going to be difficult and it’s been tough to try to fight back.” Rokas added.
