Deltran Battery Tender RC Hard Charger Award & FMF Privateer Power Award





It was a day of celebration at the final round of the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. In the midst of unprecedented uncertainty emerged an exceptionally competitive season across both the 450 Class and 250 Class, which came to a fittingly climactic conclusion in Southern California at the MX vs ATV All Out Fox Raceway National.



A historic afternoon of racing turned into a day of firsts, as Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Zach Osborne and Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha Racing's Dylan Ferrandis both prevailed with their first respective championships and Team Honda HRC's Chase Sexton and GEICO Honda's Jett Lawrence both captured their first overall victories.



In addition to celebrating the winners and podium finishers at every round of the 2020 season, each week the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship also brings attention to other riders who should be recognized for their efforts. Following every round a pair of specialty awards are handed out to riders who dig deep and overcome the odds to achieve success.



The Deltran Battery RC Hard Charger Award recognizes the 450 Class rider that embodies the relentless, never-give-up attitude that personified the career of the G.O.A.T. Ricky Carmichael, the most successful rider in the history of American motocross. The award is given to the rider that passes the most competitors in a single 450 Class moto at every round, earning the most significant improvement from his starting spot to his finishing result. Each recipient of the RC Hard Charger Award is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.



The FMF Privateer Power Award shines the spotlight on the underdog rider that overcomes the odds in pursuit of his racing dream, exceeding expectations by putting forth an incredible performance that often surpasses that of the factory-backed riders that surround him. The ability to do more with less is something that every privateer aspires to achieve, and each week this award applauds a rider who was successful in accomplishing that feat. Each recipient of the Privateer Power Award is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.

For privateer rider Scott Meshey the season-ending Fox Raceway National was a tough challenge in which the Husqvarna rider showed he's as resilient as any other rider in the 450 Class. In the first moto Meshey found himself mired deep in the field off the start, ultimately completing the opening lap in 37th place of the 40-rider field. The Florida native didn't let the early adversity deter him.


He dug deep and pushed through the remainder of the moto, ultimately passing 15 riders on his way to an impressive 22nd-place finish, just narrowly missing out on scoring the first points of his career. Even though he wasn't able to get rewarded with what would have been well-deserved moto points, Meshey's climb through the field was the best of any 450 Class rider at the Fox Raceway National and is receiving proper recognition as the final RC Hard Charger Award of the season.



 



FMF Privateer Power Award



At the final round of the championship there's nothing more important to each and every rider in the field than to end the season on a high note. That sentiment was certainly shared by FXR/Chaparral Honda Racing rider Coty Schock, who went out and fulfilled his goal in the most memorable way possible. Prior to the Fox Raceway finale Schock's best result in 18 career 450 Class starts was a trio of 15th-place finishes, all of which came during the 2019 season.



Schock had made big gains in speed during the 2020 season, even though his results weren't necessarily indicative of that. In six races this summer Schock had earned a best result of 17th, but his performance at Fox Raceway blew that and each of his prior finishes out of the water. It was a tale of two motos for Schock, who was impressive in battling forward from a 17th-place start in Moto 1 to finish 12th.



He kept the ball rolling into Moto 2 with an impressive seventh-place start that he was able to parlay into a 10th-place finish, the single-best moto result of his pro career. As a result of his exceptional afternoon Schock earned his first ever top-10 in the overall classification. It was the exact kind of performance Schock was looking for to further his career and it made him an obvious choice for the final FMF Privateer Power Award of the season.
