In the Ligier European Series finale, Sébastien Baud was crowned the 2020 JS2 R class champion, marking COOL Racing’s first-ever title, after the Frenchman scored a pair of podium positions in Portimao.
Having qualified the #74 Ligier JS2 R fourth for Race 1, Baud climbed up to third by the finish, putting him within one point of the championship. In the final race, the 19-year-old controlled his pace and made no mistakes, finishing where he started in third to seal his position at the top of the standings.
Sébastien Baud: “I am extremely happy that we’ve been able to win the title, after all the work we’ve put in since the start of this season. I’m really pleased for the team, we worked well together and had a lot of fun. I’m proud to be the first Ligier European Series JS2 R champion, the concept is great and I hope there will be the same level of competition for years to come. I’ve had a lot of good moments this year, the four wins in my home races in Le Castellet were very special for me. After the tough weekend in Monza, we had to bounce back and we were able to enjoy a good result to claim the title. Thank you to everyone in the team for making this possible.”
Patrick Barbier, Team Principal: “We managed this weekend really well and had a good strategy to be in the mix in qualifying. We didn’t take any risks at the start of both races and just focused on scoring the necessary points. Seb trusted and listened to us, he didn’t make any mistakes and the Ligier JS2 R was reliable. This strategy saw him claim two podiums and the title, COOL Racing’s first championship win, to cap off a great season. Seb showed throughout this year that he is a very fast and capable driver, he’s progressed a lot. We hope to be able to take him onto the higher levels of endurance racing.”
