The BWT Racing Point F1 Esports Team’s line-up of Lucas Blakeley, Daniele Haddad and Shanaka Clay head into the second event of the 2020 F1 Esports Pro Series aiming to build on its consistent points-scoring form.
 


Lucas’s P6 finish in the Event One finale at China gave the team a boost and underlined its potential after technical issues in the first two races at Bahrain and Vietnam hindered the team.
 


While the BWT Racing Point F1 Esports Team currently lies P8 in the Constructors’ Championship with a total of 10 points, the field is close and the margins are fine.





Zandvoort set for virtual debut




Event Two is a chance for the team to make further progress and our trio will work together to take on the latest triple-header.
 


This week’s event includes the virtual debut of Zandvoort after the real-world Grand Prix’s return was delayed until 2021, with Canada and Austria also set to feature.
 


Zandvoort’s inclusion in F1 2020 gave gamers and Esports drivers their first go at the deeply impressive banked Turns 3 and 14 that had been set to give a unique challenge to the real-world F1 season – and it’s sure to be an exciting race in Event Two.
 


The inclusion of Canada on this year’s calendar is sure to thrill and Shanaka has great memories of the venue, having already tasted success in Canada in 2020 after winning his debut F1 Esports Pro Exhibition series race back in June.
 


Shanaka and Lucas will combine to take on Zandvoort and Lucas will partner with Daniele for the races in Canada and Austria.

The F1 Esports Pro Series has had some tweaks ahead of the 2020 campaign including a new qualifying format that will closely replicate the real-world Formula 1 qualifying format.
 


Races have also been increased to 35% race distance for the coming campaign, while the latest F1 2020 video game has also been improved on its predecessor and will further challenge the drivers.
 


Fans can follow live coverage on the team’s social channels, while Formula 1 has increased its broadcast offering for 2020.
 


Qualifying will now be broadcast over Twitch and Huya, while the daily evening shows will be broadcast live through Formula 1’s select TV partners.
 


Fans in the UK, Italy and Germany can see the action unfold on Sky Sports, with ESPN providing the broadcast for the USA. SuperSport will broadcast across Africa while Fox Sports will broadcast in Latin America and Australia. Ziggo will provide the Dutch broadcast, while Nordic Entertainment Group covers Scandinavia.

“I think this next event is going to be a really exciting one for the fans to watch and follow. We’ve seen that the level of competition this year is extremely high with tiny margins between us all. We’re going to great circuits like Zandvoort, which only makes it more thrilling. I think it could be a real highlight as it’s so much fun to drive on the game and there’s still plenty of unknowns going into it.


We don’t know what the racing will be like there or where the best spots for overtaking are. We’re coming into this event off the back of a challenging opener, but we did end on the high of a sixth-place finish in China, so that gives me confidence going into this week.



We know we’ll need to be on our A-game throughout, and we’ve analysed and looked over the data from last time out to make sure we’re going in the right direction. We’re aiming for a smoother event and more points to underline our potential.”

Daniele Haddad, Esports Driver at BWT Racing Point F1 Esports Team:


“We didn’t get the results that we would have wanted in the opening round, so we’re motivated to come back stronger in Event Two and really show what we are capable of. The biggest takeaway going into this round is how close the grid is.



 A tenth can be the difference between pole all the way down to P15, and we’re going to be racing on some tracks with very short laps, so every little detail is going to be important. We’ve learned some lessons from the first event and we’ll work hard to make sure we really maximise everything this time around. It’s going to be a big challenge but I’m excited to get going.”





Shanaka Clay, Esports Driver at BWT Racing Point F1 Esports Team:


“I think we showed good potential in the first event, but now it’s about extracting it more consistently and making sure we qualify higher up the grid. We’ve seen just how closely-matched the grid is, so making Q3 is a real achievement this year. Upon reflection, I think there’s more to come from the set-up in that we can make it easier to extract more from the car. We know it’s there and I’m confident we can find it.


While I won't be competing, I’m really looking forward to seeing how the racing at Canada goes and I’ve had success there in the past. The track has changed in this year’s game and the track limits have too, so no one really has a reference point going into it. It’s a low grip, high-speed track with limited overtaking, so qualifying well and having a strong first lap will be key. I can’t wait to get going and we’ll be pushing to show that there’s more to come from all of us.”
