11:30 Meeke brings his experience to bear

An experienced WRC driver, Kris Meeke is leading the lightweight vehicle race at the first checkpoint. The Brit, who was knocked out of contention for the podium by a mechanical 100 km before the finish on Thursday, leads Reinaldo Varela by 47'.

Michał Goczał and Cristina Gutiérrez round off the top 4 just over a minute back. Meanwhile, the winner of the last stage, Seth Quintero, is already losing 3'30'.

07:20 Can Quintero make it two?

Seth Quintero became the youngest ever Dakar stage winner thanks to his victory in the last special. The American's seemingly unstoppable rise has put him third overall, just eight minutes behind Aron Domżała.

'Chaleco' López, fourth at 35 minutes, was unfortunate enough to suffer a mechanical on Friday. The Chilean driver has no choice but to go on the attack. Will we see a duel between Quintero and López on the road to Sakakah?
