THE ITALIAN RACER CLINCHES A CLEAR VICTORY IN THE 3-HOUR RACE AT PERGUSA SHARING AN AUDI WITH TEAM-MATES LORENZO FERRARI AND MATTIA DRUDI

Riccardo Agostini started his 2021 season by leading the points both of the Italian GT Sprint and Endurance series after claiming the victory in the 3-hour race at Pergusa repeating the last year's win at the Mugello opener.

The Padova-based racing driver in Sicily shared the Audi Sport Italia R8 LMS GT3 car with Mattia Drudi and Lorenzo Ferrari - the latter three weeks ago fourth and second alongside Agostini in the Sprint series.

The weekend at Enna started with the third quickest overall time in qualifying and Agostini third in his session. Ferrari maintained the same position at the light before moving to fourth behind the Alberto Di Folco's Lamborghini. An early contact with the sister-car driven by Filip Salaquarda costed two more positions as Ferrari went behind South African David Perel.

After the first pit-stop Riccardo moved up to third before a second safety car intervention due to some debries. At the re-start Agostini handed his position to Daniel Zampieri but passed the Simon Mann's Ferrari to regain P3. One hours and 17 minutes to go there was another neutralization. When situation went normal Zampieri pitted and Agostini moved up to second. In the closing pit-stop he handed over the car to Drudi, who rejoined the track ahead of the Andrea Amici's Lamborghini to finish first.

Agostini, Ferrari and Drudi now lead the standings with five points over the Ferrari trio Giancarlo Fisichella, Stefano Gai and Zampieri. The next round is scheduled at Mugello on 3/4 July. Agostini will be on track again in only two weeks (5/6 June) at Misano for the Sprint series round 2.
