Fantastic and varied field of 108 teams



The 56th edition of the Renties Ypres Rally Belgium could not have dreamed of a better line-up. The first Belgian event to count towards the FIA World Rally Championship has a magnificent 108-team starting grid, with the world's top drivers taking on local favourites Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe.



The field is led by the ten P1 WRCs, the top priority cars in the World Championship. Seven-time World Champion Sébastien Ogier, the current leader of the provisional 2021 standings, will lead the way in his Toyota Yaris WRC. Runner-up Elfyn Evans is also a strong contender for Toyota, which also boasts the youngest winner of a world round, Finland's Kalle Rovanperä. The fourth Yaris WRC is in the hands of Takamoto Katsuta from Japan, who is increasingly finding his feet in the WRC.



We can of course expect Sébastien Ogier to be at the front, but in Ypres it is our compatriot Thierry Neuville, accompanied by Martijn Wydaeghe, who will start as the favourite. After all, he is the only one who has the experience of the speed of a WRC on this event!



 While Ott Tänak will be keen to shake off the bad luck that has been following him lately, Craig Breen, winner in Ypres in 2019, is also expected to be very fast in the third Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. A fourth example of the Korean coupé is planned for Pierre-Louis Loubet.



M-Sport is giving northerner Adrien Fourmaux, supported by our compatriot Renaud Jamoul, a chance to shine again in the Ford Fiesta RS WRC. The talented Frenchman can be expected to set excellent times on asphalt, especially as he will be competing almost in front of his home crowd. Gus Greensmith will drive the other Ford Fiesta RS WRC.



In WRC2, Oliver Solberg and reigning WRC3 champion Jari Huttunen will debut the new Hyundai i20 Rally2. Teemu Suninen and Tom Kristensson will be defending the Ford colours, while Nikolay Gryazin will make his mark in the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.



However, they will have to watch out for the fastest WRC3 drivers, including some of our compatriots from the Belgian championship. First of all, the current leader, Ghislain de Mevius, Sébastien Bedoret, PJM Cracco and Cédric De Cecco, all in Skoda Fabia R5, Grégoire Munster and his Hyundai i20 R5, Vincent Verschueren and Pieter Tsjoen, both in Volkswagen Polos GTI R5, Bernd Casier and Maxime Potty (Ford Fiesta) as well as Davy Vanneste and Kris Princen (Citroën C3 R5), without forgetting the title holder Adrien Fernémont.

In short, the Renties Ypres Rally promises emotion and spectacle from the first special stage on Friday afternoon, August 13, to the finish on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Sunday August 15.
