It was a bitter sweet result for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport at the IMSA Sportscar Weekend at Road America. After leading the time charts in both Practice 1 and Practice 2 and obtaining the Pole Position on Saturday's Qualifying, the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2 driven by Ben Keating and Mikkel Jensen, struggled to maintain pace during the 2.4 hour-race held Sunday afternoon, finishing in 3rd Place.
 
 
 
"It was an interesting race," said Ben Keating, who started the race for the No. 52 from the pole position. "We didn’t have the pace we needed to win, which is always our goal for a race weekend."
 


"It was a complicated race; we struggled with the pace," added Jensen. "We have to work hard to investigate why and come back stronger at Laguna Seca."
 


In spite of not achieving the primary goal of winning the IMSA SportsCar Weekend race, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports managed to finish ahead of its main LMP2 Championship competitor, which helped extend their Championship points lead.
 


"Although the car’s performance was not up to our expectations," said Ray Mathiasen, team principal, "I was pleased that we were able to pick up points that enable us to maintain our points lead towards another Championship in 2021."
 


"The car came through the race relatively unscathed so we should be in good shape for our next race at Laguna Seca, our 'home' track. A big thanks to the team for a job well done under pretty weather conditions." Mathiasen concluded.
 


"The drivers and crew did a great job once again, we just didn’t have the pace," closed Bobby Oergel, team principal. "We have to get home and understand why."

In addition to the IMSA WeatherTech Championship, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports will now prepare for their upcoming participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in collaboration with Tech1 Racing / Panis Racing. This legendary event will kick off with on August 18th. The No. 24 PR1 Motorsports / Tech1Racing LMP2 entry will be driven by drivers Patrick Kelly, Simon Trummer and Gabriel Aubry.
