Bernd Hiemer sixth in Supermoto GP in Villars sous Ecot

04.06.2007: Bernd Hiemer sixth in Supermoto GP in Villars sous Ecot

KTM factory rider Bernd Hiemer improved from a ninth finish in the first race to sixth in the second of the Supermoto Grand Prix of France at Villars sous Ecot on Sunday to finish in overall sixth place for a confidence-boosting 27 championship points.

After a slower start than planned to the season, the German title defender said his performance this weekend was a confidence booster although he still was not as comfortable on the offroad sector as on the asphalt. French riders dominated the event, taking the five places in front of Hiemer.

"The course this weekend was very demanding," Hiemer said, "particularly the offroad sector, which really favoured the guys who are MX specialists."

Hiemer said he had put in good training on Saturday and was disappointed to have a less than satisfactory start in Sunday's first race, which left him to fight back from his initial eleventh place. "I did manage to improve on that but it was even better for me in the second race. I had a better start and went very well on the asphalt. I feel I am improving, also mentally, and I think I can still get it together to make a run on the championship."

The German racer said he is convinced that he has the skills and the machine to make up the points the slow start to this year's title has cost him. He is also in discussions with the KTM MX factory team personnel about the possibility of arranging some common training to brush up his MX skills.

Hiemer has 75 championship points with six rounds still to go in the season. His aim has to be to narrow the 80 point gap between himself and the leader Adrien Chareyre.
