Car Collection Motorsport has secured its first outright pole position in the 24H SERIES in more than three years following an incredibly close, Code 60-affected qualifying session for the Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING that saw the top three split by just over two-tenths of a second.


Qualifying - Overall




The Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II (#34, Johannes Dr. Kirchhoff / Max Edelhoff / Elmar Grimm) remained comfortably in the overall top three during the 45-minute qualifying session at the Hockenheimring. A fast time from Max Edelhoff during his final run then leapfrogged the Audi ahead of both the JUTA Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO I (#71, Julius Adomavičius / Andrius Gelžinis / Jonas Gelžinis) and the CP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#85, Charles Putman / Charles Espenlaub / Joe Foster) by the narrowest
of margins.
 


This marks the first outright pole position in the 24H SERIES for Car Collection Motorsport since the Hankook 12H BRNO in 2019.
 


“Yeah, this was a great job, and some great teamwork between all three drivers,” a delighted Max Edelhoff explained to radiolemans.com’s Chris Dawes. “The other teams were also on good runs, and it wasn’t easy with the Code 60s, so I was constantly asking on the radio: ‘is this enough?’; ‘do I need to push a little bit more?’; ‘should I try to get a better lap?’ But in the end, we made it, this was a great effort from the whole team, and we are very happy!”
 


Car Collection’s average time of 1m 43.109s around the 4.574km Hockenheimring was just two-tenths quicker than that of JUTA Racing, and while Julius Adomavičius did manage to set the Lithuanian outfit’s personal best lap time on his last run of Q3, it wasn’t enough to unseat Car Collection Motorsport. Amazingly though, JUTA Racing did manage to deprive CP Racing of a front row position by just 0.017s, securing an all-Audi R8 front row in
the process.
 


A sensational run from the Red Ant Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (#903, Ayrton Redant / Bert Redant / Yannick Redant) saw the Belgian team secure the fourth fastest average time of the afternoon en-route to 992 class pole position. An equally impressive run from the Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (#710, Kerong Li / Jean-Francois Brunot / Tim Müller) meant the GTX Teams’ championship contender posted the fifth fastest average time of qualifying, simultaneously securing GTX class pole position.
 


This means four different manufacturers – Audi, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche and Lamborghini – are set to start tomorrow’s Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING from the top five positions on the GT grid.
 


The returning Plusline-Racing-Team by Terting&Müskens (#905, Peter Terting / Carrie Schreiner / Philipp Gresek / Harald Geisselhart), the second fastest of the 992 runners, will line up 6th overall for its home event, while 992’s third fastest runner – Red Camel-Jordans.nl (#909, Ivo Breukers / Luc Breukers / Rik Breukers) – will start 8th overall.
 


The Porsche pair bookend the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II (#18, Michael Doppelmayr / Pierre Kaffer / Elia Erhart / Patryk Krupinski). The Hankook 12H SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS winner topped two of the 15-minute qualifying sessions, and even set the fastest outright lap of qualifying – 1m 40.697s – but will start 7th after Phoenix failed to post its hot lap before the first Code 60 caution period was thrown during Q1.
 


Ironically, the JR Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 (#2, Ted van Vliet / Bas Schouten / Dirk Schouten), which set the fastest time overall in Q1, rounds out the top 10 on the grid having lost time to a Code 60 caution period during Q2.
 


The RD Signs – Siauliai racing team Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (#720, Audrius Butkevicius / Nicola Michelon / Paulius Paskevicius) bounced back from a tough weekend at Spa-Francorchamps to set the second fastest average time in GTX, and the 9th quickest of the GT field. GTX championship rival Vortex V8 (#701, Lionel Amrouche / Philippe Bonnel / Sebastien Lajoux) will line up 13th overall.
 


MANIACK-Racing (#412, Martin Wachter / Dario Pergolini / Constantin Kletzer), the first team ever from Liechtenstein to compete in the 24H SERIES, got its maiden weekend with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 off to a solid start with the 15th fastest average time in the GT division. MANIACK will be supported by three-time Overall TCE Teams’ champion Autorama Motorsport at Hockenheim.
 


Porsche Lorient Racing meanwhile (#912, Philippe Polette / Frederic Lelievre / Jean-François Demorge / Frédéric Ancel) endured a tough qualifying session with, bizarrely, two separate incidents in the stadium section. Each produced two of the session’s three Code 60 caution periods, the second ending in heavy damage after contact with the tyre barrier. Porsche Lorient did not return for Q3 and will thus start tomorrow’s Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING from the back row of the GT field.




The green flag for the 2022 Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING is scheduled to fly on Saturday 14 May at 13.50 hrs local time, the race continuing until 19.55 hrs that evening. After CREVENTIC’s traditional overnight ‘intervention’, the race will resume at 14.00 hrs on Sunday 15 May and will run uninterrupted thereafter until the chequered flag is flown at 19.55 hrs.
