Big Entry for the 34th Rally Elba Storico
15.09.2022: The 34th edition of the Rally Elba Storico will see 49 cars from the golden era of rallying, with half of the entry being FIA EHRC point scoring competitors for the first of two visits to Italy.

The 34th edition of the Rally Elba Storico will see 49 cars from the golden era of rallying, with half of the entry being FIA EHRC point scoring competitors for the first of two visits to Italy.
Round 8 of the 2022 FIA European Historic Rally Championship will take place on the 22-24 September and features 10 special stages over a distance of 135km.
CATEGORY 4 (1982 - 1990)
A total of 20 cars are entered in Category 4, of which 7 are eligible to score championship points.
Leading the way is the current championship leader Ville Silvasti in the no1 Lancia Rally 037, who is joined by Risto Pietilainen, the Finnish co-driver currently is second place in the Co-Drivers championship standings. Silvasti is currently just 6 points ahead of Mats Myrsell in the no2 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4, while Myrsell’s teammate Esko Junttila is 9 points ahead of Pietilainen.
2018 FIA EHRC Champions Valter Jensen and Erik Pedersen will be competing in their BMW M3 E30 after finishing third in Asturias earlier this month.
Round 4 winners Tibor Erdi Jr and Zoltan Csoko will be looking to take their second EHRC win in their debut season on Elba in the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4, while Juergen Geist will be back out in the distinctive Opel Manta 400, the German being joined by Czech co-driver Josef Kral.
Hungarian duo Peter Magoss and Viktor Ban will be competing in the Subaru Legacy, with Carlos Sampayo Cao and Irene Serrano Grande from Spain completing in the Category 4 EHRC entries in the Renault 11 Turbo.
CATEGORY 3 (1976 – 1981)
With the FIA EHRC Category 3 Drivers Championship being won by ‘Zippo’ in Asturias, the attention now turns to the Co-Drivers title. There are 13 cars entered in Category 3, with 7 eligible to score championship points.
With ‘Zippo’ and Denis Piceno not taking part in the Rally Elba Storico the EHRC entry in Category 3 is headed by 2019 champions Karl Wagner and Gerda Zauner in the no4 Porsche 911 SC.
The no12 Volvo 244 of Siegfried and Renate Mayr will also be on the hunt for maximum points in Italy, with Siegfried currently in 2nd place in the driver standings on 61 points, 8 points ahead of Karl Wagner and 13 ahead of Andrew McAlpine in the no21 Ferrari 308 GTB, with Renate leading the co-driver standings 12 points ahead of McAlpine’s teammate Andy Bull and 15 ahead of Gerda Zauner.
Michael and Elizabeth Putz will be making a return to Elba in their Porsche 911 SC, the event the Austrian couple took part in immediately after their wedding last year.
Fernando Dameto finished second in Asturias in his Porsche 911 SC and will be joined by Angela Dameto in Italy. Georg Reitsperger and Lana Sutlovic will be back out in their VW Golf 16S, while Tim and Steve Jones will be competing in their second event of the 2022 season in their Chrysler Sunbeam.
CATEGORY 2 (1970 – 1975)
Category 2 will also feature 13 entries, of which 7 are eligible for championship points.
Championship leaders Pietro Corredig and Sonia Borghese will be taking part in the first of two home events for the Italian couple in their BMW 2002 Tii. The Mecsek Rallye winners are currently ahead of fellow Italians Paolo Pasutti and Giovanni Campeis, with Corredig 6 points ahead of Pasutti in the driver standings and Borghese 5 points ahead of Campeis in the co-driver championship.
Lahti and Asturias Category 2 winner Will Graham will be competing in the Ford Escort RS1800 and is currently 14 points behind Pietro Corredig in the driver standings. Graham will be joined in the Escort by fellow Britain Robin Kellard for the Rally Elba Storico.
After sealing the Category 1 driver and co-driver titles in Asturias, Ernie and Karen Graham will be returning to Category 2 for Elba in another Flexifly Rally Team run Ford Escort RS 1600. They will be joined by their Category 1 teammates James Potter and Caroline McCormack, who will also be running a Category 2 Ford Escort RS1800.
After finishing second on their home event in Asturias, Jesus Eduardo Diez and Alejandro Cid will be competing in the Rally Elba Storico in their Ford Escort RS2000, with Austrians Richard and Lucie Ronay also taking part in a Ford Escort.
CATEGORY 1 (1969 and earlier)
Category 1 will feature three entries with 2021 Champions Antonio Parisi and Giuseppe D’Angelo leading the way in their Porsche 911 S. Fellow Italians Carlo Fiorito and Marina Bertonasco will be back on the points trail in their BMW 2002 Ti. The class is completed by the Volvo 122 of Finnish crew Jari Hyvarinen and Jarno Ala-Turkia.
The 34th Rally Elba Storico is Round 8 of the 2022 FIA European Historic Rally Championship and will take place on the Island of Elba in Italy on the 22-24 September.

From the Touring Cars and GTs of the 1960s, Group 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the 1970s and the Groups A, B and N of the 1980s, the FIA European Historic Rally Championship features cars from the golden era of rallying.
The 2022 FIA EHRC season will feature nine events in Spain, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Finland and Italy.
