Absolute Racing maiden season in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) came to a close this weekend at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve with Andrew Haryanto, Martin Rump and Alessio Picariello finishing the 4 Hours of Portimão in 6th place in the LMGTE class.
 


Absolute Racing was looking to end the 2022 ELMS campaign on a high, even if two drivers of the team’s line up were new to the undulating 4.653-kilometre Portuguese layout known to provide a unique challenge for the drivers and teams, with tricky braking zones and fast, flowing corners.
 


After some promising showings in the free practice sessions - Alessio Picariello posted the quickest lap time in the Free Practice 3 - qualifying did not go as planned. Andrew Haryanto endured a challenging 10-minute session and had to start the four-hour race from the six row of the LMGTE class grid.
 


With little to lose, the team took a chance on changing the tires in the opening lap. The No.18 Absolute Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19 came into the pits for mounting intermediate tires. However, when the Indonesian driver wanted to return to the track, the pit exit was inexplicably closed. He was forced to spend one lap in the pitlane before returning to the track.
 


Henceforth the Absolute Racing crew focused on making a steady run to the flag, showing a good pace in both wet and dry conditions. The team gradually moved up in the classification, finishing  the race in six place.
 


With this result in the Portuguese soil, Absolute Racing finished the 2022 ELMS season sixth in the LMGTE Team Standings.
 


Ingo Matter, Team Director of Absolute Racing, said: “It was an up-and-down season. This weekend didn’t go our way, but this happens in racing. As a team, we didn't want to finish the year in this manner as we demonstrated in previous races this year that we were capable of finishing on the podium.
