The FIA Formula 2 Championship returns to action at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, this week after a dramatic final round of the 2022 season, which saw MP Motorsport claim their first-ever Teams’ Championship title and Carlin’s Logan Sargeant seal his promotion to Formula 1 with Williams Racing.



Starting on Wednesday, the three days of testing round out the 2022 season and will give many drivers their first taste of Formula 2 machinery as the teams prepare for the beginning of the 2023 Formula 2 season.





WHAT TO EXPECT



Running from 23–25 November, each day of the official post-season test will be split into a morning and an afternoon session, with a total of 18 hours of track time available across the three days.



On all three days of running, the first session will begin at 09:00 and end at 12:00, while the second session will start at 14:00 and 17:00 (GMT +4).



Teams will be testing on Pirelli’s red-walled soft tyres and yellow-walled medium compound; each car will be allocated five sets of primes and three sets of options.




THE FIELD



• The 2022 post-season Formula 2 test features a host of exciting talent on Day 1, with eight new faces lining up alongside 14 drivers returning from the 2022 F2 campaign, including runner-up Théo Pourchaire.



• All but one of the returning drivers, Zane Maloney, have contested at least one full season in the second tier. The Bajan driver made his Formula 2 debut with Trident in the final round of the season at Yas Marina.



• Seven drivers have already been confirmed for the 2023 campaign, including two-time race winner Dennis Hauger who switches to MP Motorsport after a rookie season for PREMA Racing. Meanwhile, Oliver Bearman, who finished this year’s Formula 3 season third, will graduate to F2 with PREMA next year.



• 2023 will also see Frederik Vesti switch teams, the Dane will join Bearman at PREMA after a first season with ART Grand Prix that saw him collect a win and five podiums. Also confirmed for next season is Ralph Boschung, who continues his partnership with Campos Racing for another year.



• The final returnee already signed for 2023 is Clément Novalak, who will reunite with Trident. The Frenchman last drove with the Italian outfit in 2021 on the way to third in the F3 Championship.



• Arthur Leclerc and Kush Maini have also both earned full time promotions to the second tier for the 2023 campaign,
signing to DAMS and Campos Racing for their rookie seasons, respectively.



• This week sees the top seven drivers from the 2022 F3 campaign get behind the wheel of a Formula 2 car for the first time, with 2021 F3 Champion Victor Martins, runner-up Maloney, Bearman, Isack Hadjar, Roman Stanek, Leclerc and Jak Crawford all stepping up to test in the second tier.



• Seven teams (PREMA Racing, Carlin, Hitech Grand Prix, MP Motorsport, Trident, Charouz Racing System and Van Amersfoort Racing) will field entirely new line-ups for Day 1 of testing.


• A total of 17 nationalities will be represented on the first day of testing at Yas Marina Circuit.
