Switzerland will open the FIM Snowcross World Championship season, that will begin this Friday at Veysonnaz. The track location has been moved up to an altitude of 2000 metres. The change will make the event even more selective, because the riders need to be perfectly fit to give their best at such an altitude. But they all are, because the FIM Snowcross World Championship participants are the best snowmobile riders in the world. 40 riders can enter each round, but only the fastest 20 of them will enter the two 12 lap Races, that pay Snowcross World Championship points. Surely defending Champion Peter Ericson will be in those 20 with his Lynx, and he will be chased by two times World Champion and Lynx fellow rider Janne Tapio, who finished second last year. Also Tomi Ahmasalo proved to be an extremely good rider, by finishing fourth in 2006, and Johan Eriksson seems to be up for a fight too. There will be a Canadian rider, Jérôme Gerber, having strong top five ambitions. Hosting the first two rounds of the FIM Snowcross World Championship, one on Friday and the other one on Saturday, Veysonnaz will be a tough season opener, that will tell a lot about the favourites for the crown. All the races will start at 3.30 pm (local time), both on Friday and Saturday. 2004 and 2005 Snowcross World Champion Janne Tapio said: "I am well at the moment, and I look forward to Veysonnaz. The new Lynx has not as much power as last year, and I have to ride it more aggressively. But I know that I am fast enough to win another Title".
