SHARPIE 500  - QUALIFYING QUOTES

26.08.2006: SHARPIE 500  - QUALIFYING QUOTES

Mark Martin, driver of the No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion, is fourth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings with three races remaining before the Chase for the Nextel Cup.

SHARPIE 500 QUALIFYING

MARK MARTIN – No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion (Qualified 15th) – "We got a bad draw there. I hate that. We’ve got a great race car and I thought for once we weren’t gonna start in the back, but that track was just way slick right there. I’m sure it will get better here because our car was capable of doing a lot better than that, but it was awful slick. It looks like it’s gonna be the same old, same old for us. We’ll just battle our way from the middle of the pack."

DALE JARRETT – No. 88 UPS Ford Fusion (Qualified 32nd) – "There’s just a little lack of grip. I knew that and wanted to try to get all that I could and I just slid the nose in one and two a little bit too much and maybe late getting back to the throttle. I think that’s where we lost the speed because it was about a tenth slower than what it was in practice and that tenth is pretty big right now."

GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 National Guard Ford Fusion (Qualified 36th) – "I was real nervous because if we would have crashed it, then we’re out because we don’t have anything to practice here in a little bit to get ready for the race. It’s tough. People out here are limping around and putting oil on the race track and crashed two good race cars – me and the 5. It’s unfortunate. That probably took our chase chances down the drain right there."

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 M&M’s Ford Fusion (Qualified 39th) – "It’s definitely a little slicker. We ran as fast as we did in practice and a lot of people slowed down, but it’s just a little slicker. We were a little loose off and even though I’ve never been here before you need all the drive you can get. It’s a little bit slick, but we’ll get it. It definitely felt better there than it did getting in and that’s the big thing we’ve been fighting. I think it’ll be easier to fix coming off than when we fought loose getting in all day."

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion (Qualified 4th) – "That’s a good lap so far. There are still a lot of cars to qualify, so hopefully that will end up somewhere decent. I think we have a pretty good car for the race. Robbie and everybody has done a great job on our DeWalt team again this week. It’s been a lot of fun driving this year when they run good, so, hopefully, we can hang out and be up at the front when it counts at the end tomorrow night."
