Riegel/Stanton Racing off to a strong start at Daytona test

07.01.2009: Riegel/Stanton Racing partners Ted Rozsa and Craig Stanton are thrilled with the progress made by the #65 TRG team and drivers this week at the “Roar Before the 24,” the final test before the famed Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona on January 23rd.

Riegel/Stanton Racing partners Ted Rozsa and Craig Stanton are thrilled with the progress made by the #65 TRG team and drivers this week at the “Roar Before the 24,” the final test before the famed Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona on January 23rd.

The No. 65 Riegel-Stanton/Cystic Fibrosis Foundation/65 Roses/Magnus Racing/Marquis Jet/Resorts International/IPC/Total Lubricants/TRG Porsche features a four man driver line-up with multitudes of experience between them, including two-time Rolex 24 winner Craig Stanton, up-and-coming American racer John Potter, 2008 Rolex 24 second-place finisher Bryce Miller and factory Porsche driver, Marco Holzer.  The Riegel-Stanton group debuted the 2009 Porsche and maximized the opportunity at Daytona, setting the third quickest time of the three-day test with a lap of 1:51.176.

"This weekend was a great experience for the Riegel-Stanton team and I am very pleased with our progress," Rozsa said. "John and Craig have been spending a lot of time together and the chemistry between them is great. I am very happy to have Bryce on the team and Marco Holzer has brought a maturity well beyond his years. With John Bedell as our crew chief, I think we quietly have one of the stronger line-ups out there and I am cautiously optimistic headed into the 24."

The #65 car represents the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and will race for the foundation, donating money to the CFF for every lap the65 Roses car completes at this year’s Rolex 24.  The team is offering unique tours and VIP experiences for charitable donations benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at the Rolex 24, look for more information at www.65rosesracing.com.

John Potter:
"The car is a brand new 2009 Porsche, so every time we go out for a practice session the car gets that much better. There are subtle differences between the 2008 and 2009 cars. Our engineer has done a great job with the handling and set-up.

I ran here during the evening at the test in November and over this past weekend. The lights are so bright it is almost like running during the day.

This will be my first 24 hour race, it’s been a great start, and I am looking forward to coming back at the end of the month."

Craig Stanton:
"I am so excited for the Rolex 24 at the end of the month.  Each driver did a great job throughout the test, John gave terrific feedback and became very comfortable with the new car, Bryce contributed a lot to the set-up and Marco took the reigns, familiarized himself very quickly and he was fast.

I’ve got a bit more experience with this race, so I am the one who is working to mold the group and make sure we are on the same page, making progress with our communication and gelling as a team.

I am stoked with our results here this week and I think we are in great shape going into the Rolex 24.”

Bryce Miller:
“I am pretty delighted with our progress.  We took two seconds off our time over the test, which is great progress.

We’ve developed chemistry and very good communication between the four of us and we certainly have a lot of momentum going into the Rolex 24 and we left this test on a high note.”

Marco Holzer
: “I have very happy with my first experience in the #65 Porsche.

Kevin Buckler has put together a very talented team.  We developed a good set-up over the test, the tires were very good and I think setting the third fastest lap of the test was a great start.  Now, I am ready to focus on the race and hopefully a race win in the 65 Roses car!”
