Grand-Am Series, 1. Lauf
Starker Auftakt für Porsche bei den 24 Stunden von Daytona: David Donohue (USA) sicherte sich mit dem Porsche Riley von Brumos Racing die Pole Position für den Langstreckenklassiker in Florida, den sein Vater Mark vor 40 Jahren gewonnen hat. Mit einer Tausendstelsekunde Rückstand belegte Timo Bernhard (Dittweiler) im Porsche Riley von Penske Racing den zweiten Platz. Zwei Porsche in der ersten Startreihe von Daytona – das gab es zuletzt 1990.
„Nach der vielen Arbeit, die das Team in das neue Auto gesteckt hat, war ich den Jungs ein gutes Qualifying einfach schuldig“, meinte Timo Bernhard vor dem Auftaktrennen der Grand-Am Series am Samstag. „Ich hätte zwar lieber die Bestzeit geholt, aber Hauptsache zwei Porsche starten aus der ersten Reihe.“
Auch in der GT-Klasse gehörten Porsche-Piloten zu den Schnellsten. Mit dem 911 GT3 Cup des Teams TRG landete Andy Lally (USA) auf dem zweiten Platz vor Porsche-Junior Martin Ragginger (Österreich), der für Autometrics Motorsport am Start ist. Wolf Henzler (Nürtingen), amtierender GT2-Meister der American Le Mans Series, belegte 
im 911 GT3 Cup von Farnbacher Loles Racing den fünften Platz vor seinem Teamkollegen Dirk Werner (Kissenbrück). Porsche-Junior Marco Holzer (Bobingen) schaffte für das Team TRG die zehntschnellste Zeit. Unter den zwölf bestplatzierten GT-Fahrzeugen waren zehn Porsche.
Das 24-Stunden-Rennen in Daytona startet am Samstag um 15.30 Uhr Ortszeit (21.30 Uhr MEZ).
