Nichts zu holen gab es für das BMW Sauber F1 Team beim Britischen Grand Prix in Silverstone. Robert Kubica belegte am Sonntag Platz 13, sein Teamkollege Nick Heidfeld wurde 15.

Schnellste Runde: 1.22,182 min in Rd. 41 (vierzehntschnellste insgesamt)

„Das war ein sehr schwieriges Rennen für mich. Von Startplatz zwölf aus war klar, dass wir unter normalen Umständen nicht viel ausrichten können. Deshalb gingen wir ein gewisses Risiko ein und entschieden, dass ich mit viel Benzin an Bord und mit den härteren Reifen starte. Das hat sich aber nicht gelohnt, weil ich große Schwierigkeiten hatte, die Reifen auf Temperatur zu bringen. So habe ich gleich zu Beginn Boden verloren. Wir müssen akzeptieren, dass Rang 13 das ist, was heute möglich war.“

„Nach dem schlechten Qualifying lief das Rennen im Prinzip wie erwartet. Es war nicht viel zu holen. Beim Start habe ich sehr viel riskiert und bin in eine ziemlich kleine Lücke gestochen. Dabei habe ich mir den Frontflügel kaputt gemacht, aber ich konnte froh sein, dass nicht mehr passiert ist. Natürlich hat der Schaden die Aerodynamik stark beeinträchtigt, aber wir haben uns entschieden, mit dem Wechsel auf den regulären Stopp zu warten, um nicht noch mehr Zeit zu verlieren. Im zweiten Stint musste ich die härtere Reifenmischung fahren, hier waren die weichen Reifen klar die besseren.“

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Direktor):
„Das Ergebnis entspricht der Ausgangsposition aus dem Qualifying. Das Wochenende war damit insgesamt enttäuschend für unser Team. Wir werden unser Entwicklungsprogramm weiter forcieren. Aufregung im Rennen gab es für unser Team heute nur anlässlich Nicks Kollision in der ersten Runde, bei der er sich den Frontflügel beschädigte. Er konnte zwar bis zum geplanten Stopp weiterfahren, hatte dadurch aber viel Boden verloren.“


Willy Rampf (Head of Engineering):

„Mit dem Resultat sind wir natürlich nicht zufrieden, aber es hat leider die Leistung aus dem Qualifying reflektiert. Auch im Rennen hatten wir Probleme, die Reifen in den optimalen Arbeitsbereich zu bekommen. Beide Fahrer haben mit den harten Reifen über mangelnden Grip geklagt, mit der weicheren Mischung war die Pace akzeptabel. Doch letztlich war die Leistung des Autos einfach nicht konkurrenzfähig. Am Nürburgring werden wir ein weiteres Aerodynamik-Update bringen.“
