Le Championnat du Monde de Karting, qui se déroule ce week-end à Macao, a subi un coup d’arrêt ce samedi. Les officiels de l’épreuve ont en effet décidé de suspendre la compétition après les essais chronométrés et deux manches qualificatives. En cause : l’asphalte du circuit qui ne résiste pas au passage des karts conjugué à la chaleur. Une solution est actuellement à l’étude pour que le premier Championnat du Monde organisé en Asie puisse malgré tout se dérouler dimanche.



Contrairement à certaines craintes, c’est bien sur une piste sèche et même sous le soleil que s’étaient déroulés les essais qualificatifs. L’occasion pour Ben Hanley (Maranello-Maxter), de retour en karting après avoir évolué en monoplace avec un titre de vice-champion de Formule Renault 3.5 en 2007 à la clé, de se rappeler au bon souvenir de tous.

Le Britannique s’adjugeait en effet la pole position devant l’Italien Alessandro Bressan (Kosmic-Vortex), le Britannique Gary Catt (Tony Kart-Vortex), le jeune Français Brandon Maïsano (LH-Maxter), nouveau venu parmi l’élite et le jeune Champion d’Europe finlandais Aaro Vainio (Maranello-Maxter). Ces cinq là, séparés par seulement deux dixièmes de seconde, emmenaient dans leur sillage le Belge Yannick De Brabander (Intrepid-TM), le Champion du Monde italien Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart-Vortex) et les Français Manuel Renaudie (Gillard-Parilla), Armand Convers (Kosmic-Vortex) et Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG-Maxter)

Les débats semblaient donc bien lancés. Mais, dans le paddock, quelques craintes concernant l’asphalte de la piste commençaient à poindre. Celles-ci allaient hélas ! se confirmer. Après les victoires de Ben Hanley et d’Arnaud Kozlinski lors des deux premières manches qualificatives (sur les six prévues), les officiels de l’épreuve décidaient de mettre un terme au programme initial.

Dans plusieurs virages, l’asphalte ne résistait pas au passage des karts. La formation de trous dans la piste, la présence de gravillons très fins et les projections empêchaient les concurrents d’évoluer dans des conditions de sécurité minimale.

Une solution est actuellement recherchée par toutes les parties concernées pour réparer les dégâts et éviter une nouvelle dégradation de la piste. Le timing de la journée du dimanche sera donc adapté pour permettre à l’épreuve de reprendre un cours aussi normal que possible.
