•    2009 title winners receive trophies at Autosport Awards
•    Unforgettable night for young quartet

Last Sunday night at the palatial Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London the eyes of the Motorsport world watched as the annual  Autosport Awards took place with the four 2009 Formula Kart Stars champions taking centre stage to receive their laurels.

As Formula One World Champion Jenson Button received the international racing driver of the year accolade George Russell, Jack Barlow, Matt Parry and Alex Albon all took their turn to receive their championship trophies.

2009 Toyota F1 driver Kamui Kobayashi and former rallying co-driver Robert Reid were on hand to dish out the MSA British Cadet trophy to Russell and the FKS Mini Max, Junior Max and KF3 titles to Barlow, Parry and Albon respectively.

“It’s a fantastic evening,” says FKS series director Carolynn Hoy who, along with the drivers’ families was watching from the floor. “The great and the good of world Motorsport are there and for Formula Kart Stars to have a presence is just incredible for our champions.

“It really is a special evening and the boys were the only karters invited. They were the youngest people in the whole room and so everybody noticed them. At one point I turned round and Jack Barlow was chatting to (Ferrari F1 boss) Stefano Domenicali!”

Veteran Motorsport anchor Steve Ryder hosted the evening with the list of guests reading like a Who’s Who of the current global Motorsport scene. Amongst the award recipients were Button and his championship winning Brawn BGP001, Red Bull designer Adrian Newey, British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington and ex Formula Kart Stars driver Sarah Moore, who won the British Club Driver of the Year award.

The full Formula Kart Stars 2009 Championship Presentation will take place at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham on Saturday January 16th.
