Lazzarini's weekend in Valladolid ends with first S1 victory
|
A very hot Gran Premio de España Ciudad de Valladolid saw both World Championship leaders Thierry Van Den Bosch and Davide Gozzini hand the red plate to Bernd Hiemer and Adrien Chareyre respectively.
The latter was the S2 winner courtesy of a double moto win while Ivan Lazzarini dominated the S1 class for the first time since his debut in the class in 2007.
Olivier Scheen and Edgardo Borella took their maiden European Championship wins in the S3 and Open class respectively.
S1
This was Ivan Lazzarini’s weekend as the DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory rider took victory in both heats after starting from the first place on the grid; after his last overall GP win from Busca 2006, The "Lazza" finally marked his comeback to the first step of the podium. Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre was a solid runner up, ending 1-3 like third placed on the podium Bernd Hiemer of KTM Italia Miglio. The German snatched the red plate from Thierry Van Den Bosch, who crashed three times today, once per heat and in the qualifying session. Aprilia Off Road’s VDB was fourth ahead of Cross 2R Husqvarna’s Sylvain Bidart and HM Honda Racing Monticelli’s Jerome Giraudo.
Top five overall: 1. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 50 points; 2. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 42 p.; 3. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), 42 p.; 4. Thierry van den Bosch (FRA, Aprilia), 28 p.; 5. Sylvain Bidart (FRA, Husqvarna), 28 p.
S1 RACE 1
Lazzarini lead the group into the first corner while Giraudo and others crashed a couple of turns later; Hiemer was leading a four rider group chasing the runner up spot, which the German eventually took. VDB crashed while he tried to pass Matthew Winstanley. He rejoined the group to bring his factory Aprilia home in sixth while Chareyre eventually moved past Winstanley for third. In the final laps Bidart secured the fifth spot by closing all doors Van Den Bosch could use.
Top five: 1. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 19:06.800; ; 2. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), +0:03.645; 3. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:10.308; 4. Matthew Winstanley (GBR, KTM), +0:16.063; 5. Sylvain Bidart (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:20.651
S1 RACE 2
Once again Lazzarini was the quickest at the start with Winstanley moving past Hiemer for second; Van Den Bosch was looking for a way past the Brit but was involved in Winstanley’s crash, losing a couple of positions from Hiemer and Chareyre. Winstanley dnf’d as Van Den Bosch crashed some laps later when he was trying to move past Chareyre for second. The latter tried to close the gap from Lazzarini but eventually settled for second ahead of Hiemer. Giraudo and Testu rounded off the top five with VDB ending ninth.
Top five: 1. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 19:02.166; ; 2. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:01.563; 3. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), +0:16.427; 4. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), +0:19.840; 5. Maxime Testu (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:25.302
S2
In a difficult day for TM Factory Racing’s Davide Gozzini, who crashed at lap one of moto two, Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre took victory in both heats to snatch the red plate. Riding with a broken left wrist, KTM Italia Miglio’s Attilio Pignotti took a surprising second on the podium ahead of defending Champion and Chareyre’s team mate Gerald Delepine. Gozzini was an eventual fourth ahead of DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Massimo Beltrami. After entering his first Superpole this morning, Andrea Occhini finished ninth.
Top five overall: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 50 points; 2. Attilio Pignotti (ITA, KTM), 40 p.; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), 36 p.; 4. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 35 p.; 5. Massimo Beltrami (ITA, Aprilia), 34 p.
S2 RACE 1
Chareyre took the holeshot and pulled away from the rest of the field to take victory number one of the day; Gozzini tried to keep up with the Frenchman’s pace but eventually settled for second, escaping from the battle for third in between Pignotti, Beltrami and Delepine. The latter passed both rivals with two flawless manoeuvres at the sky section, taking third from Pignotti and Beltrami. At the final lap Beltrami tangled up with Occhini, who finished sixth.
Top five: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 19:17.484; ; 2. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), +0:06.770; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:12.550; 4. Attilio Pignotti (ITA, KTM), +0:14.295; 5. Massimo Beltrami (ITA, Aprilia), +0:15.354
S2 RACE 2
Chareyre rode another impressive heat to wrap up a 50 point overall win; on the other hand Gozzini’s race was decided at lap one, when the Italian crashed and was forced to restart from the back of the group. Pignotti and Mariani were cruising in second and third respectively when Delepine moved past both. The Belgian was then given a stop & go penalty for a jump start and he handed back both spots to finish fifth. Beltrami and Minutilli battled it out for fourth, with Minutilli crashing out at the sky section.
Top five: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 19:20.700; ; 2. Attilio Pignotti (ITA, KTM), +0:07.772; 3. Lorenzo Mariani (ITA, TM), +0:11.645; 4. Massimo Beltrami (ITA, Aprilia), +0:13.534; 5. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:15.109

For the first time since his S1 debut in 2007 Bernd Hiemer holds the red plate, which he snatched from an unlucky Van Den Bosch - now second. Thomas Chareyre is back in third ahead of Winstanley and Lazzarini. The latter jumped up from ninth.
