Zwei Wochen nach dem Monaco Grand Prix kehrt die Formel 1 ins türkische Istanbul zurück. Die Strecke bietet eine Mischung aus einigen langsamen, durch kurze Geraden verbundenen Kurven, Bergauf- und Bergab-Passagen, der berühmten schnellen Kurve 8 – und ist außerdem eine der wenigen, die gegen den Uhrzeigersinn gefahren werden. Top-Speed ist ein wichtiges Kriterium auf der Gegengeraden, vor den beiden Kurven, die auf die Star-Ziel-Gerade führen.

HRT F1, Hispania Racing, freut sich auf die neue Herausforderung und möchte den Aufwärtstrend des Teams fortsetzen. Das erste Ziel ist es dabei, mit den beiden Autos von Bruno Senna und Karun Chandhok die schwarz-weiß karierte Flagge zu sehen.

Teamchef Dr. Colin Kolles:
"Auch wenn unsere Fahrer bereits auf dieser Strecke gefahren sind, ist es die Türkei-Premiere für unser Team. Wir gehen davon aus, dass wir mit sehr viel Downforce unterwegs sein werden, aber es ist natürlich etwas ganz anderes als Monaco, eine ganz andere Charakteristik, dazu alles viel breiter. Durch die Mischung von langsamen, mittelschnellen und schnellen Kurven hoffen wir, näher an die anderen Teams heranzukommen, auch wenn das Rennen wieder eine harte Belastungsprobe für Autos und Fahrer

Karun Chandhok:
"Nach unserem starken Auftritt in Monaco freue ich mich auf Istanbul. Es ist schade, dass das Rennen dort so enden musste, aber das Team kann stolz sein, wir haben einen sehr guten Job gemacht. Der Türkei-GP ist eine ganz andere Herausforderung. In den letzten Jahren in der GP2 war ich dort immer gut unterwegs, habe 2007 vor meinem Ausfall sogar geführt. Der Kurs hat eine gute Mischung verschiedener Kurven, vor allem natürlich Kurve 8, die eine besondere Herausforderung ist, sehr langgezogen, mit drei Scheitelpunkten. In den schnellen Kurven auf die Reifen aufzupassen wird im Rennen entscheidend sein. Das Team ist nach Monaco definitiv ermutigt – wir werden weiter unser Bestes tun!!

Bruno Senna:
"Ich bin bis jetzt zweimal in der Türkei gefahren und habe dabei doch einige Erfahrung über die Anforderungen und Schwierigkeiten der Strecke sammeln können. Es wird sicher ein schwieriges Wochenende werden – die interessante Kombination von Unebenheiten und schnellen Kurven bedeutet mit Sicherheit eine Herausforderung für unser Auto. Aber dieses hohe Schwierigkeitsniveau macht es auch interessant – und ich werde wieder alles daransetzen, auch das letzte Zehntel aus dem Auto herauszuholen, vor allem natürlich im Qualifying, aber auch im Rennen...  Wir brauchen wieder eine gute, doppelte Zielnkunft, um unsere Position in der Konstrukteurs-WM zu verbessern.”
