Die Erwartungen des Teams BMW Motorrad Motorsport für die zehnte Runde der FIM Superbike-Weltmeisterschaft 2010 im britischen Silverstone blieben unerfüllt. Das junge Team erlebte einen schwierigen Rennsonntag. Im ersten Rennen klagten Troy Corser (AUS) und Ruben Xaus (ESP) über mangelnde Haftung. Troy, der als Siebter ins Rennen gestartet war, sah die Zielflagge als Zehnter, Ruben fiel von Startplatz acht auf die 17. Position zurück.
Für das zweite Rennen brachten Abstimmungsänderungen Verbesserungen. Troy lag auf Position drei, nachdem er in der zweiten Runde Max Biaggi (Aprilia) überholt hatte. Aber er verlor auf einer Bodenwelle die Kontrolle über sein Vorderrad und stürzte. Troy blieb glücklicherweise unverletzt. Ruben fiel zunächst zurück, konnte sich aber zurück nach vorn kämpfen und wurde Elfter. In der Fahrerwertung ist Troy mit 155 Punkten Zehnter, Ruben ist 14. mit 69 Punkten. In der Herstellerwertung liegt BMW auf dem sechsten Rang (174).
Dennoch hat BMW Motorrad heute einen Grund zum Feiern: Ayrton Badovini (ITA) vom Team BMW Motorrad Italia STK schrieb Geschichte. Als erster Fahrer des FIM Superstock 1000 Cup konnte er in den ersten sieben Saisonrennen sieben Siege holen und sich damit den vorzeitigen Titelgewinn in dieser Serie sichern.

„Ich bin enttäuscht. Das erste Rennen war schrecklich. Ich hatte Probleme mit meinen Reifen und habe nur versucht, das Rennen zu Ende zu fahren. Für das zweite Rennen haben wir an der Maschine einige Änderungen vorgenommen, um die mechanische Haftung zu verbessern.
Ich hatte erneut einen guten Start, und gute Haftung. Das Bike hat sich gut angefühlt, sodass ich sofort angreifen konnte. Ich konnte so fahren, wie ich wollte. Und das Bike hat das getan, was ich vom ihm verlangt habe. Ich konnte Max Biaggi überholen, traf dann aber leider in der ersten Kurve eine Bodenwelle und rutschte weg.“

„Das erste Rennen war ein kleines Desaster. Uns hat es schlicht an Haftung gefehlt. Wir haben für das zweite Rennen einige Änderungen vorgenommen. Im zweiten Rennen lief es dann nicht schlecht, auch wenn ich nicht den besten Start hatte. Ich war auf der unebenen Innenseite, das Bike war dadurch vorn instabil, und ich konnte nicht richtig Gas geben.
Dadurch haben mich einige andere Fahrer überholt. Noch dazu musste ich mich erst noch an das neue Setup gewöhnen. Aber ich war nach ein paar Runden mit der Abstimmung vertraut und konnte gute Rundenzeiten fahren. Einmal mehr haben wir für die Zukunft gelernt.“
Berthold Hauser (BMW Motorrad Motorsport Direktor):
„Es war ein Wochenende zum Vergessen. Wir hatten uns wesentlich mehr erwartet, denn wir dachten, dass uns die Strecke besser liegen sollte. Leider hatten wir gewisse Probleme mit der Haftung, die in dieser Form für uns neu waren. Für das zweite Rennen nahm das Team einige signifikante Änderungen an den Bikes vor.
Troys Maschine war wesentlich besser, aber leider stürzte er nach der ersten Runde. Dabei hatte er einfach nur Pech. Er hat auf einer Bodenwelle das Vorderrad verloren. Das Positive war, dass Ruben im zweiten Rennen recht konstante Rundenzeiten fahren konnte. Gleich nach dem Start hat er ein paar Positionen verloren, aber er konnte sich zurückkämpfen.
Als professionelles Team müssen wir nun optimistisch nach vorn schauen: Kopf hoch - wir werden hart dafür arbeiten, dass es beim nächsten Mal wieder besser läuft. Gratulation an Ayrton Badovini und das Team BMW Motorrad Italia STK zum Titelgewinn im FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Sie haben einen exzellenten Job gemacht.“
