Street Racing in Pau

29.05.2008: Street Racing in Pau

Formula Master heads to Pau, France, for the Series' only street races of the 2008 season in this weekend's rounds three and four.

The street circuit, which saw Chris van der Drift and Pablo Sanchez Lopez claim their first Formula Master victories last year, is notoriously difficult. With its tight corners and no run-off areas, the streets of Pau are as entertaining as they are unforgiving.

"Pau was good for me last year," said Drivers' Classification leader Chris van der Drift. "I won a race there. After having such a good weekend in Valencia, where I won both races, we want to keep the momentum going. Winning is the goal but you have to take things one race at a time so we'll see; Pau can be very difficult!"

With only 11 drivers having raced on the track in a Formula Master single-seater before, this weekend could prove costly for the Series' less experienced drivers as Sanchez Lopez explains:

"Pau is a circuit I like so much because it can be very technical but one mistake and it's over!" said the Mexican driver who became Formula Master's youngest race winner at the French track last year. "Qualifying is very important since overtaking is so limited once the race starts so new drivers might struggle but, to be honest, the level of drivers this year is so good that I expect them to know what they are doing after the first free practice."

Eurosport's coverage for Formula Master's race weekend in Pau, France, will begin Saturday 31 May with race one shown live at 12:15 (CET) on Eurosport 2 and Asia Pacific. Race two will be broadcast live on Eurosport 2 and Asia Pacific at 14:00 (CET).
